Hi Lads,
I am thinking of importing a Subaru Impreza from Japan but where is the best place in japan to import a subaru impreza at a cheap price (used or damaged) any one got any web address's
and by the way once you import a car from japan and you have paid for the car and shipping fees once the car get's to the uk do you have to pay any thing like (vat,Shipping once in uk) thanks Lads.

you have to pay vat and import duty, then you have to have it sva'd i think you call it, i may not be correct but i think you pay
17.5% vat
10% import duty
shipping costs either container or drove on different prices

so once i import the car i have to pay Vat and import Duty so is it like this if i import a subaru impreza wrx worth £5000 so do i have to pay 17.5% of £5000 of what the car valve is and how do you work out the import Duty whic is 10% as well dose any one no how much it will roughly cost all together.

i think u will find most companies that import ur car over will charge u an all in on the road price. this includes all SVA, VAT Deliveries etc.
never used them myself but check
newera imports
very well laid out site and i am sure if u dropped em an email, they would b more than happy to answer any of ur questions
u can also giv em ur budget and type of car ur after and they[/url] their best to find u one.
hope this helps

newera are ok if you are looking to "buy" they dont like you emailing them for information, we thats the sh1ty reply i got when I tried to ask for information, I was told only to email if i was serious about buying now.
You did ask about importing a car, what i would suggest is like someone else said, you get someone else to do it for you and pay a one of price, but as far as i know, yes its like you described, you pay 17.5% vat, then 10% of the cost import duty and then you have the car sva'd.

hi mate youy pay for the car in japan when it gets here you pay the shippibng then you have to get the car cleared by custom which works like this price of thr car in japan plus shipping fees.then on this price you pay 10% customs then on all the price plus customs you pay 17.5% VAT.then the nice guys at custom charge you 40 and so do the docks for handling 40. then when you get the car you have to have it SVA test (180) roughly costs you about 300 to get it ready for test. when its passed DVLA to get car registered 25 pounds. then you can get the car on the road. thats pretty much the whole procedure

You will need to cough up the lot up front, car, shipping, tax, vat when importing etc, plus any hidden extras like transportation down to the docks. There is alot more involved and the money needs to be there for you to do it.

From the kinda prices i've seen for OTR there dont seem to be such a bonus with importing scoobs from Japan IMO/guesstimate as they are loadsa to choose from already in UK so you have plenty to choose from & no dramatic saving but you have to wait maybe 4 months
It's all good either way & i have just used newera, although non scooby, & found Miguel good about supplying info via email & they are excellent at finding great cars their rep is based on not buying poo but to be fair he will only supply detailed info if you are serious, boards like this are good for general info thou

have you checked out insurance for the wrx yet. if not i would do it immediatly before you even think about importing one. japanese imports are roughly 60- 70 % higher on insurance, this is due to the fact that if you wrap it round a tree the insurance company has to replace the parts direct from japan. this is what a manager of an insurance company told me. personally i think its a load of sh*t but what do i know.
