I'm picking up my MY00 from the Netherlands in a couple of weeks. WhoHooo!

a) Is there a post-running in service due at 1000m? (trying to organise the diary!)...

b) If I use Super Unleaded from new will resetting the ECU at the first service be useful?

Cheers

Lee.

Lee . . .

a) Yes

b) forget it - minimal difference between SUL and UL and no need for an ECU reset. Lots of stuff on here about this - I raised the same question a few weeks back, seach on Petrol/ECU etc. MY00 ECUs do not need to be reset, they will adjust to the fuel being used. I've tried both SUL and UL in my MY00 and makes hardly any difference - what is more noticeable is how you drive it. The ECU seems to adapt to your style, so if you welly it all the time, it seems to give more power. Maybe its just my imagination!

1000 miles service changes thinner running in oil for regular stuff so go gentle on the throttle and don't exceed 4000 revs before getting this changed. The running in period seems like torture but after the 1k service..well you'll be griining like a cheshire cat.

I've found that Super gave better fuel consumption and better top end response but for general pottering about normal unleaded seems very similar. I ran my car on SUL after its first service for about 1200 miles than started to fill up with regular and did notice a small difference. Debatable if its worth the extra dosh on each fill up.

Question

Hi

I too have a euro imported car on the way. In Holland, Belgium etc dealers do not schedule the 1000 mile service (1st one @7500mls.) Whilst it is a good idea to get it done to keep your full "UK" service history and warranty I wonder if it is necessary as presumably they are not using running in oil? I don't know the implications of this from a technical point of view but it would seem logical that it will reduce the need to be as gentle with the car to begin with.
