You could spec the car using a Spec C as the base model, but of course you would lose some of the comfort features that add the weight. Spec C is 90Kg lighter.

Oh how I want one...shame I thought having a first child this year was a better idea (and too late to say I don't want it now!).

Hopefully by the time July comes along and our bundle of joy has been delivered, I will have grown out of wanting a Type 25...mind you it does say that it has child locks and seat attachments!

It is actually cheaper to get a GL (cheaper than Spec C's new!) and then buy the 2.5ltr engine (prob around 1200 quid from the states, maybe a little more inc vat) and get the lot put together and have the car remapped.
Lots of hassle and no warrany to speak of but you will save alot of cash

Tony

PS John is right about the weight of the Spec C, they weigh 1350kg.

Tony,

Yes, but that wouldn't include the coilover kit, other suspension parts, body parts (chin, spoiler etc.) and the nice little badge

Cheers

or the hybrid turbo, or the high flow exhaust.......

The whole point of the Type25 is that you are buying a car with a waranty with all the guesswork and modyfying costs gone. If you want to build your own special then the Type25 isnt for you.

True,
Id prefer the full package already made for me but for people on a budget its possible (or for people who want to modify their car.... ) its a cheap option.

Of course its posible, thats what people on scoobynet have been doing for years. If you add up the cost of the spec of this car you would be surprised quite how much it would set you back, even if you were competent enough to do all the work yourself.

It's a diferent market to people who want to modify the car themselves, thats the significance of the car, not the fact its doing something a competent engineer couldnt do themselves.

If I wanted a new Subaru at the moment I would start with this and then consider modifying it further if I wanted to, but it would save a heck of a lot of hassle.

(5th engine, 4th gearbox, 3rd clutch - not because of wear, 7th turbo so far to get what I want).

Yep I think I'm coming around to the idea... just worried about the insurance of such beastie!
Also how the warranty will work and if it will be reliable long term... Will the box and engine components hold out?

Still weighing up the pros and cons againt My UK STI ppp... will it be that much better? I wonder...

in a word, yes. Twin scroll turbo and 2.5 + high flow headers / exhaust = massive torque at almost any speed in almost any gear.

Insurance will be around the same as Solberg edition. Speak to Iain.

Reliability at 350bhp should be fine, has a plated rear diff and the sti 6 speed box is good for 350. Obviously everything brakes if you drive like you stole it everywhere.

TBH for £34k I'd rather have a 2nd hand BMW M3, much better car than the Type 25.
That is my opinion and my opinion only before anyone slags me off.

John,

Define "better". M3 is "better" than the Type 25 in what way ?

My old Pug 306 1.4XL is better than the Type 25 because I can get a chest of drawers in it

Cheers

I have actually driven Licho's red version. I went from my own STi 5 to an EVO 8 (which felt about then same speed as my STi) then into Litcho's motor. It was mental. I had to hang on to the steering wheel when I gave it the lot. There was so little lag. I think 350bhp is definitely on the conservative side.
You loose the burble but the 2.5L donkey roars a lot loader than the regular 2L. It almost sounds like it's gunna bust throught the fire wall.
The DCCD works well, not that I had any track time in it. But it was a cinch to step the back out when ever you wanted to.
You can have you active yaw diff whatever in the EVO. The Spec C felt so much more intuitive and easier to drive fast. Getting back in my own car for once felt a bit disappointing.
If only I had the money for it .....

Yep will be talking $$ and insurance next week...
Trip down for a drive me thinks...
Had a holiday in the US booked again for this year but the other half has managed to get preg... 11 years after our first! must have been the new boxers i got for Xmas!
So 5k that was for the hols is looking for a home, and what better fammily car could I get...Obviously I've told her that i can get the shopping that bit quicker than in the STI...
Really tho depends on insurance, i'm on £1100 at the moment with the STi so???????? came out of a company car this no no-claims!

No, Subaru make a 2.5Litre STi engine for the US Market, it uses some of that engine whilst retaining the best of the JDM engine so you get the best of both worlds.
