seems to hold back till it gets to 4k its a94 wrx sti help please

Probably the o2 sensor, after 4k on boost the MAF takes control of things...

Yup, could well be the problem.

Do a search for lambda sensor. You can check it by fitting an AFR. Do you have a sooty exhaust / crap fuel use / dodgy tickover?

i thought the lambda sensor was in the headers on the my94 and that the sensor in the downpipe is the cat-on-fire sensor?

or am i talking out my *** again?

i've also got a 94 motor the lamda sensor is in the down pipe, however i dont fitted to my car at the mo and its running fine!!! a bit rich on the fuel but fine.
i did have a similar problem a few months back but was accompanied by a juddering aswell turn out to be a small split in a vacum hose and nakkered spark plugs. dont know if thats any help to ya
