Question

I have a MY00 wagon and I'm thinking of putting on a cat back Magnex exhaust on it. Will this invalidate the Subaru warranty?

Is the Magnex CAT back system good for extra power and nice noice, but without being too loud on the motorway?

Thanks

Deep note, and sounds like a Scooby should, THRUMP! THRUMP! THRUMP!

Stick a bit of carpet in the boot, holds a bit of noise back, I can live with it
Makes people look when I drive past, but does not wake the neighbours at night.

Nice fit and the warrantee, well if it’s a problem I will take it off for warrantee work if required, but a friendly service garage won’t give you any problem.

Got to keep it well polished with Autosolve, sad I know

Was it made by Subaru and was it fitted by them as a standard item when you bought the car ?

If the answer to ANY of the above is "erm, no..." then it MAY and likely WILL affect your warranty, which is based on the car as it was MANUFACTURED....

Have you thought about what it will do to your insurance?? It's called a "Performance Modification"....and if you decide not to tell them and you have an accident they will be fully withijn their rights to refuse to cover you, for having undeclared modifications.

It's just NOT worth it!

Won’t give you much extra BHP, maybe 5 BHP as it breaths a bit more easy, when the car is a little older about 2.5 year point I will TEC2 it for about £600ish and the zorst will com into its own.

Well that’s my plan

Agreed, wait until the warranty is up, then mod it if you want.. but just to invalidate your warranty because "it sounds good"...

NOTE: I did exactly the same, mind you, but I've "seen the light"

-=Buzz=-: I am with Subaru insurance who are Schofield brokers, they insured me through Zurich Insurance.

I told them about it and the said it would not cost me anymore.

It costs nothing to ask before you have it done.

If you modify something on a Subaru with sub standard parts and it makes it go wrong, you would not expect to legitimately claim on your warrantee.

If the wing mirror breaks off, and you claim it would be stupid to invalidate the warrantee over the zorst.

I think I read somewhere that It would invalidate the warrantee if you fitted a substandard component that caused the warrantee claim.

Can anybody quote the exact words and what it is printed on please, I can’t seem to find it at the movement.

Thanks,

I might just save up and buy the £1600 PPP, which I imagine won't affect the warranty. Although I could see the insurance going up a bit!?!

I asked the very same question of CVC in Cardiff before I brought my Ninja exhaust, they said as long as I didn't touch any engine parts then the warranty was ok, I could go as far as i want with external mods..

Ajax - exactly what I said, wasn't it? You must declare any mod to the insurance company, or you may invalidate your insurance as well as possibly invalidating your warranty.

Yes, some Ins co's. aren't bothered if it's a power increase below a certain percentage, others just charge you a bit per mod, and some flatly refuse to insure you at all. The individual has to check.

-=Buzz=-: No dispute, just agreeing with you all the way and just putting forward what I have done and how I justified it.

Still no answered to the question I posed, so I will ask again

I have looked into this just recently, i had an afterburner fitted just a few weeks after buying my car and my dealer was happy with that no problem at all, also i have just changed the centre section removing that silencer all it has done to the warranty is infringed the exhaust part of it.

What you need to do is discuss it with your dealer and see what they are happy do do, if i wanted to i could do a full de-cat with mine as long as they fitted it for me...... on the cats you will find there are oxy censors fitted feeding the ecu with exaust gases information some of the major exhaust makers also supply a chip which over rides this info flow to the ecu, otherwise the ecu is in search mode all the time looking for the information from these censors which no longer exist with the de-cat, the chip corrects this.... plus with a full de-cat you would need an engine re-map.

This seems to be very much down to your dealer and what they are happy to exept modification wise, if i did any form of panel or air filter then i would loose the lot as that an engine mod but with the exhaust as long as i work with the dealer they have been great.

I hope i have explained it clearly enough maybe some one will elaborate more on the oxy censor part.... it gets a bit complex for my little grey cells at time

Simon

Just had a WR sport backbox put on my sti8 at a subaru dealer!
It will not affect your warranty. Not as loud as a magnex system but you still get that distinctive scooby sound
