Just thought I'd say Hi as I'm new on her & new to scooby's in general.

I took delivery of my new toy just before christmas . A MY00 UK turbo with lots of prodrive goodies. The car has the prodrive engine upgrade also, can anyone tell me wot sort of power if will be making compared to a standard UK turbo? and also what exactly the upgrade includes?

Thanks & heres a picture aswell:

Hi Dean, welcome to the madness (presume Dean is your first name, if not appologies). A mate of mine has just got rid of one just like yours and he had Prodrive goodies on, he said they replaced the fuel pump, exhaust bits and ECU mods to give him around 250BHP but I can only tell you what he has told me (someone will probably shoot me down). I now own an STi8 Type UK (260 BHP) totally boggo so after getting rid of a fire breathing STi Type R highly modded (350BHP) this seams a little tame although it is probably faster than I am imagining. Hope you have as much fun as I have over the past 4 years of scooby ownership, they are great cars. Happy new year by the way.

Bought mine a few weeks back but only had her out for a run yesterday! Got my own plate so need to wait til that clears as well! How annoying seeing her sitting in the driveway!

Ady 1 - What sort of mods did you have to acheive the 350 bhp out of your Type R?

Simb 2, the car was already done when I bought it but originally I was told that the Exhaust was fully de-catted, Blitz induction kit, cams and valves were different, heads ported/polished, the ECU was chipped with a piggy back superchip and the injectors were different to standard. What I didn't say though was that it blew the engine and cost Warrender £4000 to rebuild it. Apparently a piggy back chip is a bad thing to put on this car as it fools the ECU and gives the wrong boost to mixture ratios at full chat which is where I was when it let go. Result was 3 melted pistons, duff crank and rods etc so be careful. The correct way would be a replacement ECU (Gems etc) as you can't re-map the version 4 ECU (from what I have been told), wish I had known when I bought. However it was feekin good fun until the big bang.

Thanks for the comments guys!

I had been told the car was running around 280bhp, but i'm pretty damn sure its not that high. I think 250bhp sounds reasonable. I know the ecu has been changed by prodrive, also the exhaust is all prodrive, and one of the hoses in the engine bay has prodrive on it also (cant remember which one tho!). I had a 205xs with a saxo VTS 16v lump in it before so the scooby seems pretty quick! Can't imagine what 350bhp must be like though!!

Any idea's whether a decat will make much difference?

Thanks again & happy new year to everyone!

Scoobydean - yes a full de-cat will make a nice difference.

Dean, as simb says, a full de-cat will make a hell of a difference especially the front downpipe, if this is coupled with a good induction kit it will allow the turbo to spool in a lot quicker, also the lovely addictive burble from the exhaust is something else. It is also a reasonably cheap mod to do when compared with some of the other mods (which no doubt you will be considering in the future).

Your probably pushing around 260bhp, 280bhp is very optimistic.
I would get hold of a Knocklink though and see what your engine is doing, the PPP ecu is pretty good but one bad tank of fuel and det heaven on a full decat

It sounds like it has been PPPd and that is it.

Still a lovely looking car and take pleasure in the fact that your stckers add 10 bhp each and you don't have white wheel!

Oh yeah, those stickers definately make all the difference to the performance

What does a knocklink do then? I keep seeing it mentioned on here but i'm not sure what its all about?

Cool

Hi Dean,

I've got an Dark Blue UK MY00 with the Prodrive Performance Pack fitted. You seem to have got yourself a nice example. You have a got a couple of extras which are on my shopping list:

a) An upgraded spolier
b) colour-coded side-skirts, etc
c) clear side-repeaters
d) the wheels look like 17" Prodrive PFF7's? Is that correct?

Assuming the PPP is the only change, they will have:

a) replaced the standard ECU with a PPP remapped ECU
b) replaced the centre section with a straight-through centre section (no cat)
c) replaced the back-box with a Prodrive backbox
d) replaced the intercooler pipework with bright blue pipework!! God, I'm sooooo technical.

You should be seeing about ~250 bhp and ~250 ib/ft of torque. These figures will vary wildly depending on the age of the car, the weather, and a whole host of other things.

One word of advice, run the car on Shell Optimax. There are many differing opinions on this board, but for our type of car, with the PPP, Optimax DEFINITELY makes a difference to the performance and general running of the engine.

Tony Burns put his MY00+PPP (running with Optimax) on a Dyno back in October 2001 and these were the results (I am assuming there were no other changes but I'm sure Mr Burns will shoot me down in flames if this was not the case):

Tony Burns Dyno

If you are going to get a full decat, I would try to get some advice from a Scooby specialist. Just changing the exhaust could lead to your engine going bang!

Anyway, welcome to the board and apologies for the extended waffle.

Mark.

Wheels are 17" Prodrive PD7, same as mine.

Dean, congratulations on a fine choice of Scooby

With PPP (which as Mark describes, consists of Prodrive ECU, straight-through centre section, back box and nice blue hose), you'll be making about 245bhp and 240 lb.ft of torque. The torque comes in nice and low, though, so it's actually one of the most flexible and driveable engines out there.

My scooby:

Hi Wuss
Yup my car made 249bhp and 238lbs of torque at well lane that day, which is pretty close to the 250bhp that Prodrive state, i then decatted her and she pushed 263bhp and 241lbs of torque (or there abouts) so a slight increase.
A knocklink will give you indication of det on your engine, a must have bit of kit as it will show you more than just the odd green light, it could also indicate any bad batches of fuel you have (and show det again), available for around 90 quid but you also need a Bosch sensor which could cost you another 40 on top of that.

Tony,

I had the PPP added in May 2002. It transformed the car and I was happy until I got the urge to mod again. Recently I went for an upgrade from the OEM MY00 alloys to some 17" OZ P1 alloys in anthracite.

Now thinking about a decat, but I've bought the extended warranty until May 2005, so I'm not sure if it's worth the risk.

Not wanting to be nosey, but why are you Scoobless? You seem to be a Scoobynet veteran!

Mark.
