Welcome fellow Leeds lad.

To get the best out of your car you will really need to use Octane Booster as Jap spec. cars are set up to run on 100RON fuel. The best RON value over here is Shell Optimax or BP Ultima at around 98RON.

My personal view would be to have the car mapped to use UK fuel as Octane Booster is not cheap. If you are buying through an importer he should be able to sort this for you.

Alternatively, if you have not fully committed to the purchase why don't you just go to the dock auction and buy one yourself and save a few quid?

Cheers

TONY

Happy New Year m8

Basically the Japanese cars are mapped to run on the higher octane fuel (100 RON) that is readily available in Japan.

The highest rating you can get here in the UK is only 97/98 RON (Super Unleaded/Optimax). Since the car is basically running on lower quality fuel, the engine is more prone to producing detonation or knocking. This can be very destructive and will lead to engine failure (how quickly depends on how much load/stress you put on the engine and luck).

So, to boost the quality and rating of the fuel you need to add "Octane Booster". It does exactly what it says on the tin - increases your normal fuel rating by 1-2 octance (depending on how much you use).

Advice for Japanese cars is to fit a Knocklink display (to warn you if the car is detting), use at least Super Unleaded or Optimax (my preference) and add Octane Booster (NF has good reviews).

Happy motoring,

Stefan

you can see by this Millers brochure that you can almost achieve 100 RON using Optimax and Millers Octaine Plus:

Question

hmm.... i have access to leaded fuel and my Celica GT4 is decatted.... will i kill the sensors in the exhaust if i use the leaded fuel? or LRP for that matter?

(i ran LRP in my decatted Pug 306 for a few months and she seemed to love it!) and it's a lot cheaper than Optimax)
