Question

We are visiting family in London for Christmas in our Dutch-plated scoob and would like to know if the congestion charge also applies to tourists? I tried to buy a access for a day on the internet, but my numberplate was refused because of non alpha-numeric characters. My Dutch plate is in the format XX-XX-74 and I guess the "-" is a problem for their computers. There's no way I'm entering the plate without the dashes, as that could be somebody elses number...

So am I in big trouble if I go into the zone without paying. Will they stop me on the way back at Dover or send out an interpol warrant for my arrest ? Does anyone know?

haha another foreighner who thinks he can get a free ride in this country

no offence meant mate, but if you claim asylum while your here they might give you a nice warmcosy house and a few quid to spend aswell, instead of giving it to our pensioners who fought for this country with thier lives

Happy Xmas

Try paying by phone? I wouldn't be surprised if they did try and chase you for payment back home, but I doubt they'd make the trip to reposess your car if you didn't pay the subsequent fine. Since it's only a fiver I'd try and pay it mate.

ChristianR - well exactly, as I understand it uses number plate recognition through to the DVLA database. His number plate won't be on it. Not sure what they would do then, but can't see them wasting much effort on it, probably just throw an error and cary on

Yes, but it stops if you tour here long enough to get classed as an illegal immigrant.

No offence whatsoever mate but if we go abroad (maybe not to Holland) we have to pay for the French Toll Roads etc.

Ouch!!

Foreign vehicles are also monitored and non-payers will be chased through a European debt collection agency.

Thrust mate, I'm [North] London-born and a native passport holder, so it's my country too. I am not being the bloody asylum seeker that you are being thinking being!

It's nice to come here and do some of the tourist stuff though, for example did the amphibious (sp.) tour yesterday and going to see the Springer Opera tonight.

Did you know petrol in the U.K. is actually CHEAPER than in Holland? (Eur 1.18 Vs Eur 1.23). That's the rip-off Netherlands for you!! You guys have it so good over here.

Sorry, mate, just trying to be welcoming and friendly to the Dutch - they are always so good to me when I go over there!

I guess you'll be filling up in Dover both ways then?
