in to switch on, the switch has a light which comes on when it's in the on position. If the dash water level warning light is on, the auto function doesnt work.

My light on the auto i/c water spray does not work either but used to. However the spray still works. Easy to test in the warm weather, fill your i/c bottle up and drive about with the auto button pressed in. Check your water level afterward and you'll probably also find drops of water around the i/c.

or it could be that some muppet has been messing behind the dash and put the wrong plug in the switch. When i bought my STi the front fog light feed was plugged into the IC Auto switch and the Auto switch plug was hanging in thin air. Doh!
