Check it aint a misprint ! 1k, 10k easy to catch the 0 on number key pad. Two of my mates bought Dutch imports from Gibsons of Brock - both had 1k service!

Never too late mate, your oil filter is probably full of iron filings.
Filter £6
Oil £30
Labour £100 MAX

At the end of the day the Subaru dealers would prefer you to strech out the service intervals to 10K so in 2-3 years time your nice quiet Subaru engine turns into a bag of bolts and your back knocking on the dealership door for a new one. 5K would be a more realistic enthusiasts change interval.
Your car at the end of the day mate but I know how these people tick.

When I bought mine, I was told that for the warranty to be valid in the UK it had to be serviced in line with UK schedule.

I thought "that's odd", but had the 1k service. I suspect that legally the 1k service might not be required as the warranty isn't being provided by IM.

I phoned IM about this back in June and was told (got it in writing somewhere) that:
"IM will only honour warranty claims if the vehicle has been serviced in accordance with the published intervals in the original service book."
Technically, my first service is due at 5k, and 12k after that. However, I paid the extra and had a 1K done due to past experience of the bedding in process (I seen what came out of my Saxo many moons ago).

It's up to you, but I would follow the book.

I am somewhat sceptical about the "thin running in oil" claim for the UK only. IM would have to drop the oil that the car was shipped with, and refill with their running in oil, as the cars coming from the factory for the UK or EU UK Spec are absolutely identical. They even call at Rotterdam first
