Hi ya chaps,

I am considering buying a scoob ,my old man has a mid 90s WRX and I really fancy an sti, preferably a type R.

I know its probably been asked time and time again so i am sorry in advance!!

Could you tell me the differences between the sti 3/4/5/6 cars 4 door and type R ?

And ive herd rumours of the type R`s having dodgy cranks, is this true?

Cheers

Trev.

Dodgy cranks is a rumour,Type R's have a few extra toys over the standard sti's in that they have DCCD and quickshift as standard they are also much more pleasing to the eye IMO being a 2 door they are the most fun u can have in a scoob.
Type R all the way if u can find a decent one and can insure it

Dodgy cranks is a rumour
Where do you people get this bollox from? If you dont know, dont say.

The crank in an STi is identical to a UK turbo, it's the same part number. So are the rods, so are the bearings.......

I say because ive never heard of an sti type r suffering from a dodgy crank and ive owned a few thats all.Certainly none of my scoobs have ever suffered with internal problems thats the reason i call it scaremongering

Do yourself a favour and stop giving out dodgy advice/information when you are "drinking".

Read the BBS Trev. You might just find what you are looking for. This subject has been covered hundreds of times.

Trev at the end of the day all classic sti's perform pretty much the same apart from type r/ra which due to being that bit lighter perform marginally better it all boils down to what you want from a car.Do you want 4 doors or 2,do you want to sacrifice extras for performance,my advice would be to test drive a few different models and make your own mind up dont listen to what other people have to say on here.At the end of the day its your decision.Good luck
