People,

I'm probably repeating something that's been seen a few times before, but I have an SVA question for you guys.

I've heard that as part of the check, steering wheels with metal edges (i.e. an aftermarket wheel that has replaced an airbag original) are rejected, and the owner has to toddle off and find an original wheel for it.

Is this true? It's sounds like something a picky SVA inspector would say, but it would raise the question of how TVR get away with homologating their cars, which lack a few "safety" features.

Cheers,

Neil

SVA is intended for very low volume. There is full type approval which becomes worthwhile for larger manufacturers and those considering European wide sales. Different set of rules...

So, bearing in mind that the SVA test is different from Full Type Approval, and the result may depend on which side of bed the inspector got out of that morning....

Do I need to get an original steering wheel (with airbag) in order to pass an SVA test???

OK, slightly different question:

Has anyone imported or recently bought an imported car which had a non-airbag aftermarket wheel (MOMO or similar)?

Cheers,

Neil
