Watcha Peeps

I'm new to the forum, so hello!

I'm seriously considering getting a 92-96 Legacy quad cam turbo saloon, i own a classic car at the mo and although its great fun and i pay no tax its a pain in the **** with maintainance and wet roads and the like. So i've opted for a more sensible-ish car. Although my mate has an sti powered legacy i'd like a few pointers with common probs, what to look for and running costs as i can't find much info on them like all the different versions etc.

Any light shed would be great cheers.

Thanks

There was a bloke on here with a website like legacyturbouk or soemthing the other week. Do a Google / search on here first ?

I owned a Legacy Turbo from 1995-1997. A terrific car then and still better in some ways (not all!) than the Classic Impreza.
It was better built, quieter and more reliable than my Imprezas, but the acceleration was more affected by turbo lag.

My car's hydraulic tappets when a bit rattly at 80k, a door window seal, fuel tank cap, wheel bearing and exhaust silencer needed replacing and that was it. I had clutch judder problems although the dealer allegedly replaced both the clutch and flywheel together.

I currently run a 220bhp 4x4 Skoda and in 'feel' there are similarities with the Legacy - similar outright accleration, similar build etc. If I could afford a track day car, I would buy a FSSH Legacy, as there are many parts shared with the Impreza, but the bits that aren't can be very expensive unless you go via breakers.

I've got one (MY93 UK Turbo), and echo the thoughts of Flat 4x4. Running costs are OK (use a specialist, not main dealers!), other costs (petrol) depends how much throttle you give it!! It can get a bit thirsty if you use the performance...

Generally build quality is OK to Good, odd rattle but nothing too bad. My tappets used to be a bit noisy but regular (every 3000m) seems to have that sorted. Have a bit of clutch judder at times but mainly 'cause I'm quite easy on the gas.

Might be thinking of selling soon (something cheaper on petrol - do a fair few miles between Bath and London). Drop me a mail if you're interested and I'll give you the details.
