Whats the general view on having a Turbo Timer, I am thinking of having one fitted, my scooby is a MY95 Sti2, it has done 43000 miles, and anything that can help prolong the life of engine parts must be a good thing
I think i am right that the Turbo spins very very fast and gets extremely hot
A few times the last couple of weeks i have said to myself "oh sugar" because i have turned the engine off after driving hardish, and i should have let it run for a few minutes to let the oil cool it down a bit.
Anybody reccomend a make of Turbo Timer that would suit my scoob, if i decide to get one fitted.

morning cool.j, i was like yourself always forgetting to warm down. I have now got a blitz turbo timer, which is excellent. It also has a built in boost gauge and pre-sets itself for warm down, depending on how hard you have driven your car

I dont like TT's, i couldnt walk away with the engine running. The best cool down method for a turbo is to cruise the last mile anyway, far better than sitting there for a minute after ragging it to death as you get the cool airflow over the turbo/in the turbo to bring temps down much quicker.

I'm not a fan of turbo timers.
Yes they do invalidate the Thatcham catergory 1 status of your alarm. I don't see many insurance companys being happy with that!
John's advice is good! I use to calm down my driving as I was approaching my destination! Then I'd let it idle for about a minute before switching off, but that gives you time to finish your ciggy, take the face plate off the stereo, fit the Disclok and put on the Barrier Deadlok!

How many insurance companies are actually even interested in what security your car has these days?
I told my comapny that my STI 8 has a tracker and their reply was basically, "So?"
Providing you wire it up correctly, the car is just as secure as a non-turbo timer'd car.
If someone tries to drive it while timing down, the engine cuts off as soon as the handbrake is released, and the immobiliser cuts in after 30 secs (a-la-CAT1)

My answer is yes. Fitted Apexi turbo timer a couple of weeks ago. I can feel a great benefit from it after the hardish driving. Before fitted, i have to stay in my scooby about 5-10 minutes waiting the warm down, sometime i forgot to take my key off (luckily, the scooby is in my garage, otherwise...). But now, I take the key off and the engine is still running and also i can set different time period to cool down turbo which mean very hard driving would cost more time to warm down and normal driving just need few minutes. Anyway, fit one and get the engine, turbo and other bits long life.

Save your money for something useful !!!!!
You've already got a clock in the dash - give it a couple of minutes after a hard thrash - job done. Put the savings towards the timing belt change due at 45k miles - far more important.
