Mods please leave here as it is important that peps know this.
Just phoned Elephant and they have told me that if you have your windows tinted with a film then your insurance policy is void. They even have tinting on their modifications list, but this apparently is actually done by a machine to darken the glass. Don't ask me what their problem is with film tinting.
Now I am going to have to cancel bother our policies and find new ones

It may be asscoiated with % translucancy level (is it VLA or something?)
There is a specified limit for side windows, and thereotically, too darker tint could (in the eyes of the law) make it un-roadworthy - and thus uninsured.
My knowledge is a little vaigue in this area, but I have seen reports on this issue. It's one of those grey areas again - bit like having no cat on the car may void insurance in the same way, even if you decare you have a modified exhaust system.

It's actually just because a film is used, I told them that the majority of people in the UK have their windows tinted using film, they weren't interested.
Looks like they will loose a lot of business if they start telling everyone, "Oh by the way remember you put down that you had tinted windows, well actually we classify tinted windows as something completely different, so therefore you policy is fecked"

I bought my RB5 with the tints already done so no idea on the translucency.
Phoned Tescos and the 2 choices were either done by manufacturer or a thrid-party.
Turns out no additional cost for them being done after it was bought

I am with elephant and I asked them about adding a front strut brace. They said that was on their list of unacceptable mods....along with film tinting. Although they are Ok with me adding the Prodrive springs.
Saying that I cant complain as they were 50% cheaper than anyone else when I was looking for quotes.

Hard to believe but unfortunately all insurance companies will use the "its modded sir" approach during a claim as they dont want to be out of pocket!
There is however a breath of fresh air in the name of Liverpool Victoria. I didnt believe it at first but I am now paying less premium with the full satisfaction that my modded scooby is insured correctly.
We should organise a group buy scheme from them LOL

But if you were to peel the film off before the insurance bloke gets to see you car then where is the problem??? I have tints almost as dark as they go, I was advised by a policeman to do this as a deterent against car jacking, yes I know the same person would now knick me for having it done. But for a few hundred quid I can tint the windows again so I will be peeling off after a crash as opposed to tonight.

Pimp tints, aftermarket star-trek spoilers, flaming exhausts and gold wheels should all be banned. Why not leave the bloody thing as it is rather than adding naff cosmetic mods? I think the insurance company are doing you a favour by protecting your street-cred.
All IMHO, of course.

I spoke to the police after someone thought my car was theirs and tried to get in when I was parked at lights. Luckily I had the anti car jacking setting turned on with my sigma M30 and they just banged and I drove off - through a amber light and legged it. Since having the tints I have had no repeat of this trouble and am aware that the car is slightly safer as no one can see whats inside. I see this as saving the insurance firm money, end of! I would love to find a owner of a sports/super car that can say he has never ever broken a law!!
