Difference between Impreza Type R models
#1
I am selling my Rx-7 and have pretty much decided on a type r Impreza to replace it. The only problem is that I know nothing about them! Can anybody enlighten me to what the differences are between the versions, if any, and if I have made a good choice!
Many thanks

The Impreza type R is arguably the best classic shape scoob built IMO its a 2 door coupe with DCCD.There are 2 versions of type r to my knowledge those are the WRX type R and the STI type r.Only difference i think between the 2 is that the STi has more toys in it ie Electric folding mirrors,i/c water spray,STi clocks,STi embossed seats and most importantly a red manifold which i think the wrx lacks.I'll probably be corrected by the wise cracks on here and probably flamed for claiming that the Type r is the best scoob. But i will stress its all in MY opinion

the engine is diferent in the STi versions, it can rev to just over 8100rpm compared to the 7500 recomended limit on the WRX. You also dont always get DCCD in the WRX version. There are lots of variations to the theme, so when buying make sure you know what you are looking at.
I prefer the TypeRA myself, it has more trick components like a front LSD and quickrack, it is also lighter. Some prefer the two door shape of the TypeR.

Fantastic car (i have one).
Also, there is a ltd (certainly in the STi version) which has longer 5th gear -if you wanted it (and is limited to 1000 cars, all in electric blue, with roof vents) - although I am not sure if these were options for the other cars (i believe they were, mine has a roof vent, does around 22mph per 1krpm, has couloured steering wheel and gear **** - yet I am unsure if its a ltd or not!)

the plaque is in front of the gear lever below the ash try
and! i did state "indicated" 168mph i suspect it was down nearer the low 150 mark but it was definatly on the rev limiter in 5th so its impossible for it to be going any faster, was done at Bruntingthorpe and was as simple as rounding the bottom bend and planting the gas, the roof vent whistled like it was going to fly off at over 140 though!
i have heard numourous horror stories about scoobies blowing up at speed since but mine seems ok and it did it lap after lap

Ray, you are a lucky bugger cos my Type R spit the dummy out at about 150ish and melted a few pistons in the process, buggered up the crank as well, cost about 3,500 to get fixed (rebuilt by Autosportif of Oxford). I've just changed it for an STi8 Type UK which I have been told is less prone to detonation due to the ECU being more friendly with the crap fuel octanes available over here. Have fun but be careful!!

8 x 19.7mph = 158mph
Obviously not good to run them this fast as they dont like it and if you do you should be on a track like you were.
If it has the 8250 limiter like the 5 then you are looking at 162.5mph
