Sad to hear that RB has a brain tumour and is going to be undergoing chemo/radiation therapy to cure it. He will be out for next yrs WRC. Get well soon Richard I'm sure you'll beat it.

I think McRae will be in his seat now. If we can have the old McRae back like I saw at the super special on the Satuday night in Cardiff then that will be superb.
Gutted for Burns though, could that be why his end of the season wasn't going well? He was in his own words driving badly and crashed on his last event.

It does appear to be true. Worldrallynews is carrying further details that could only have come from Burns' people. Terrible news.
Still, it sounds as though it's been caught early, and that the prognosis is good. Thanks to the exploits of a certain Mr Armstrong, there's a precedent for sportspeople coming back from cancer to conquer the world. Hopefully Richard will repeat this feat.
As for McRae rejoining Subaru, anyone who was anywhere near the protagonists at the Rally GB knows that contingencies were being discussed, although it'd be kinda difficult for McRae to go back on all he's said about not enjoying rallying ATM and wanting to take a year out. Still, if there's a paycheck in it, I daresay he'll jump, although his Dakar contract clashes with Monte, which could be a problem.
Something tells me that Markko Martin may be Subaru's first priority though, and while he's under contract to Ford, they haven't actually committed to next year's WRC yet...

Best wishes to Richard for a speedy recovery. I am just very grateful he didnt have his blackout alone or at the wheel of his 206 during the rally.
Lets hope he is back fighting fit to drive for Subaru as quickly as posible.

Official statement as per RB's Web Site
Richard Burns has been undergoing tests in hospital to determine the cause of the health problem he suffered before Rally of Wales. These tests have been concluded and the doctors have now confirmed that he has a Astrocytoma. Richard will undergo a course of radiotherapy treatment which the doctors are confident will prove successful. However, they have confirmed that he will be unable to compete in the 2004 FIA World Rally Championship.
Richard says " I would really like to thank everyone for their continued support - it means a lot to me. My fans, the Peugeot WRC team and also everyone at Prodrive and Subaru have all been tremendous. The doctors have advised that I am unable to get back in a rally car for the 2004 FIA WRC Championship and I have to accept that. I'm obviously extremely disappointed but I am feeling very positive and I am determined to focus all of my efforts on getting back to full fitness as soon as I can.”
Richard has asked that people respect his and his family’s privacy in what has been, and will continue to be, a difficult period. Additional information will be given once Richard has completed the course of treatment referred to above.
Get well soon Richard
