Hi
After having my escort recently written off by someone who was obviously half asleep when they piled into the back of me, the decission has been reached that the thing that is missing from my life is a scooby.
What I need though, is as much buying advice as I can get my hands on. I'm looking to spend between 6k and 9k on a classic shape UKspec 2000Turbo, preferably saloon and not in red.
Any advice?
Cheers
James

welcome to the board
This is THE place to get as much info as you want.
The SIDC FAQ is good, but now looking rather dated.
The only downside with this wealth of information, is that there are some people who get tired of answering the same questions (bear in mind how long Scoobynet's been going!!! )
not me though anything you're not sure on, feel free to ask! I, along with most other members will be glad to help you
Best of luck
Dan
(edited to add that I'm don't profess to know everything though!!!)

Thanks guys, this is much appreciated. I've been looking around the forums for a couple of months now trying to learn a bit more about these genious cars, just need to know what to avoid/look for.
I saw this in the autotrader, I can only assume that the milage must be hellish at this price......
1997 SUBARU IMPREZA TURBO CATALUNYA, 1997,
P reg. Mica black, limited edt, 1 out of 200 made,
FSSH, full electrics, a/bag, AC, MoTd, sports int, UK
car, immac, any insp. £5,900 . o v n o.
Saxo boy, you got any pictures and a bit more info. I'm not ready to buy just yet, but should be in about a fortnight or so (just finishing off insurance stuff and sorting out cash etc)

thanks,
is there anything that i need to be aware of with the turbo. I hear mixed things about these bad boys from them lasting forever as long as they are treated right to having to be replaced every 60K. A friend of mine has a 200sx and he's had a fair bit of grief with the turbo (although it was fun stripping the whole assembly down)

aslong as you warm up (10 mins easy driving) before you zoom, and warm down (same as before, or leave idling for a few mins) after a spirited run, you should be fine

Welcome mate.
I am a strong believer that if you look after it well then it will return the favour so to speak. I have a UK MY99 Turbo and always do the following (apologies if I repeat anything that has already been said):
- Always Serviced at Proper intervals using decent Oils
- Always use Optimax or SUL.
- Always let it Warm up and Cool down properly.
You cant really do anymore than that other than keep it below 3k rpm but thats not why you want an Impreza!! Things will go wrong with cars and you will take that chance no matter which make/model you go for.
Just be patient and look for the right one (I took 4 Months) then look after it but most importantly enjoy it you only live once.
Just my 2p worth you understand!!!

I cant agree more with the above. You pays yer money yer takes yer chance like the rest of us, insist on fssh or at least traceable specialist history, 1 careful owner is always good, dont get tempted by some worthless warranty, take someone with you that might notice something you dont and as 248SPG says treat it right and it should do right by you.I have 99 classic ex-company car (was completely standard) 95k on the clock now but came with every garage visit catalogued and 4.5k of receipts.I got a younger car with higher miles for my money that had basically been sat on the m6 in 5th for 3 years (less wear to turbo, engine, chassis etc)I only use at weekends so in 3 years the mileage should balance out.And I certainly aint sellin it!
