Im looking at an L reg impreza which has done 135000 miles - how long are these engines & gearboxes expected to last before they give up the ghost? Its got a full service history but i dont wanna get it then have to replace the entire engine etc....

oh yer its a uk turbo model

Personally I wouldn't even think about buying that unless its very cheap and you're not going to do a lot of miles. These cars are costly to run as it is (insurance, fuel etc) without factoring in virtually anything else which will probably break at those miles.
I could be wrong though, there might be members out there with high milers who know better.

Question

An L reg uk car its a bit unlikey really as they didnt come in until 1995 which is an M reg (unless its red and the v5 says its a 1.8gl )

Sorry Tony, but the UK Impreza Turbo went on sale on 07 April, 1994. I took delivery of a white one on that day - L Reg and still going strong at 125,000 miles (last time I heard about it). Original engine, gearbox and clutch!

Mind, as has been said, I'm not sure I'd buy it (or any other), with that kind of mileage. It'd have to be cheap or with a hell of a service history that you could trust.

Question

what life span does the turbo itself have? cos if that breaks your looking at a decent bill.....arent you????

Midland impreza do turbos from £150 quid. Also grade A spares sell a lot of bits at reasonable prices. Parts are quite easy to find at decent prices,

Its going for about 3 grand which i thought was quite good?
