Should i buy an estate?
#1
Hey guys
Im a newbie and lookin at gettin a subaru. Im starting at the bottom of the ladder and lookin at an L reg estate (not the wrx one). I prefer the saloon version but this is quite cheap but a high miler (full history though). What are the pros and cons of the estate version - i am looking at modifying it so things like are the rear lights different on the estate? would i be better off saving up for a newer model if they changed them at all? i dont know when the models were revised!
Sorry for all the questions but any advise would be appreciated
Cheers

Get a saloon if thats what you prefer, you'll only feel peeved if you get a wagon.
Personally I prefer the wagon as it is stealthy, about as quick as the saloon and massively more practical. You can fit a whole bunch of stuff in it with the seats down. If you do buy an older car then get a scoobyecu(remap on a chip)- available from fellow enthusiasts on here for under £100 and it will transform the power and driveability of your car, saloon or wagon.

welcome to the board.
the wagon is a great machine - i would say that though as i have an l-reg wrx wagon!
the lights are different to that of the saloon.
you can expect the same in terms of performance for both sallon and wagon.
the pro's are more load space, stealth (if you want that), in some respects lower priced.
cons, well for me none, but if you prefer the look of the saloon then i guess thats a con??

Watch this space as I`m about to pick up a modded Wagon tommorrow.
I think wagons are pampered more, cos Ive looked at saloons and they are not in as good nick.
Thats not a generalisation, just the situation near me.

I hope that it is very cheap at that mileage, I've seen some great UK wagons on here with 60K miles or so on them from 5K upwards.
They will take the mielage but be prepared to replace expensive wear and tear items unless they've recently been done.
I've got the scoobyecu fitted to my 96 wagon and it is hugely quicker now, best money I've spent on the car.

I fancy the scoobachip mod too, I`m just worried about the engine being stressed.I think if I do this mod, I`ll install the knocklink at the same time.

If you want a cheap Subaru take a look at this one, looks really nice and it is a saloon. Nice quick cars and less of a theft magnet than an Impreza. Save you a few grand as well.

I think perhaps he really doesn't want an estate which I can understand, I only got one as I need the space. That being the case perhaps he'll consider the legacy turbo I put a link to. It looks like a great car, better than a standard UK scoob of the same age for sure and it will also save him stacks of cash. Got to be worth considering if you are in the market for a Subaru.

i was going to get a saloon first
but then decided against it in favour of a wagon for a few reasons
1. got 2 kids
2. got wife who loves shopping
3. prefer the overall look to them
4. can be just as fast as a saloon
5. lot more practicality to them
6. scares the cr@p out of boy racers(although this can be done in a saloon also )
