Last Friday evening my brother was driving to see some friends when a car was following him about an inch off his back bumper this carried on for several miles even where my brother slowed right down and gave them room to pass but to no avail, once stopped at some traffic lights the car behind pulled up close the back of the car.

So my brother got out and asked if they didn't mind not sitting on his back bumper and that he had no intentions of racing in the middle of a town centre.

As my brother was walking back to his car the driver jumped out and the passenger also jumped out of the car which was following him and continued to punch and kick my brother.

my brother managed to push them off and get into the Scoob, whilst in the car he locked his car doors as they continued to kick the side of the car as he was fumbling about deactivating the anti hi-jack system so that he could drive off the guys had jumped back into their car and were revving their engine they released their clutch on their car and drove straight into the side of the Scoob.

they stalled their car whilst doing this the guy jumped out of his car and with a jacket wrapped around his arm with a knife co sealed in the jacket threatened to cut my brother up and slit his throat if he didn't give them the keys to his car my brothers window was ajar and the guy attempted to grab the keys through the window,

The other guy pulled the guy with knife back as they managed to get their car started again.

And my brother managed to getaway.

My brother has about £4500 body damage to the car, which will be fixed and promptly sold. And few bruises

The police are looking for the two men,

GBH
Attempted Grand Theft Auto
Attempted Murder
Threatening behavior
Carrying an Illegal weapon with the intent of use
Dangerous & Reckless Driving
Assault
Road Rage

The list is endless with which these gentlemen will be charged if caught and if not something far worse when you decide to target the wrong car in East London

They were driving a Black Ford Orion, I will check with the police weather the number plate can be released, this happened between the hours of 7-8 just outside of Stappleford Abbots

Gentlemen they were not!

Seriously tho I've always thought what I'd do in the situation and I have my plan....I'd not be getting out of the car AT ALL and if they got out of theres and f*cked with me or the car I would squish them good and go!

No joke.

Blimey thats aweful!!!

My question is this - we are always told to avoid these "road rage" incidents....

Dont get mad - just do nothing etc.

If your bro had of just blasted away as quick as he could after being dangerously tailgated - and was spotted by the police doing so - what would their view be? Is it better to do this than risk asault by stopping and "having a chat" etc?

I'd be interested in the Police's views on this!

Jza

What did the Police say he should have done?

He knows that he shouldn't have got out of the car but, i asked him why he didn't drive at them and his reply was that he would end up in more trouble than them and secondly it's funny how your reactions slow when faced with this situation,

If it were me,

I'd "blast off" and telephone police simultaniously, explaining my actions and informing them of the current whereabouts of the bad men.

I know the anti-police brigade will say "You'd get done for speeding or dangerous driving" etc etc, but no court in the land would convict a driver of speeding who is fleeing for his life. Fact.

Mitigating circumstances!

the police didn't bother comining around the night of the incident, quote "as the clubs are just about to open" so they said they would arrive 9am the following morning so 2:30pm they arrive.

took a statement and said they would look into it, they haven't taken fingerprints or anything and said they might come back to take photos of the damage.

the police think it was also supposed to be a hijack that went wrong, and the likely hood of the veichle they were using being stolen was very high,

yesterday my brother received a call from the police saying that their chief investiagation constable was looking at the case.

they passed no coment about my brother leaving his car !! albeit i think they new he had learned his lesson, albeit an unfair one at that !

you ask my brother what he would do in this situation before it happened and he would of said he would floor it, but when actually faced with this situation things aren't so straight forward, especially when they are willing to drive straight into the side of the scoob also this was on a road leading into a town centre, and had he hit a pedestrian and killd them i'm not to sure the police would take to kindly to that,

yes your right he shouldn't have left the car, but who's to say that this wouldn't have planned out similar if they went into the back of him, also we are new to the area and so he didn't know where the Police station was,

if this happens when you don't really know where you are it makes life difficult

But he didn't.

And hypothetical situations are counter-productive.

I've been in a similar situation, although it never ended up quite as severe, and I got the hell outta there.

Even allowing for the "red mist" I wouldn't get out of the car, especially given the circumstances you describe.

Feel for your brother, what a fcukin thing to go through, and what for? Because you work hard and can afford a great car.

For some time now, I always drive with my doors locked, its a shame your brother got out.

Might have been better to put his foot down and blow them away.

I feel for your brother and this terrible situation.

However please remember that while unpleasant and un-nerving incidents like this are not very common and more importantly its not JUST scoobs that these numb-nuts are targeting its EVERYBODY who has the determination & drive to earn enough money to buy a NICE car. Thats why these idiots will never have a nice car......because they're too stupid to think how LEGALLY they can earn a living............

Are you sure about all of these counts the police are looking for these guys on? Only I'm not sure that in the UK we have such charges as Grand Theft Auto or Road Rage.

CTR nutter,

There are no such charges as Road Rage or GTA in the UK.

Of course there are other offences which cover what happened to your brother...

The Road Rage would be a breach of the peace or a similar public order offence and the GTA would simply be attempted theft of a motor vehicle or if it can be proved that violence was used or threatened, it could be robbery.

CTR sorry to hear about your bro - chap I worked with got pulled out of his merc at gunpoint in Bradford last year, they couldn't start it so made him get bacck in holding the gun to his head to start it and then sped off - B@stards.

My next door neighbour chased a thief in his car and gave the police a call and running comentary until the thief was apprehended. Some over zelous copper then tried to do him for speeding and driving whilst talking on his mobile - can you belive it. They probably gave the thief a good telling off and let him off!

What's the world comming to. Part of the reason why I went for a silver WRX with PPP - less obvious - or am I just kidding myself!

Sorry to hear about this CTR - A similar thing happened to my boss in his M3 last year in Leicester - he managed to punch one of them away and then got in his car and reversed over the leg of the one he got down. The police wnet mad with him when he told them - but they could not charge him beacause no one had come forward to complain! So a robber with a gun can "attempt" to steal your car at gun point - but if you fight back and then drive off - its all your fault was how my boss felt. What a joke - this country is becoming a real mess!

Anyway - rant over - hope your brother is'nt to put off Scooby onwership by what happened.

unfortunatly guys as i said in an earlier post the car is going, my bro has become fed up with driver's continualy trying to race him or cut him up or attempt silly things on the road to try and prove the worthiness of their cars, and now this has capped it all off, when he had the CTR that was broken into and because they couldn't steal it they decide to trash the dashboard and put a screwdriver through the stereo,

he has been one of the unlucky ones and at 33 has decided fast cars and bikes are no longer a passion but a risk.

he said to me last night which pretty much summed it all up,

"I am glad that i am still alive and there a far more things with this life to enjoy than just cars. It was fun while it lasted but time to move on"

and if that had happened to me i think i would have taken the same decision

the car will be going directly back to scoob, or will be used in a part exchange,

things that will be up for grabs soon will be:

HKS RSK which was removed from the car a while back
HKS Sequential BOV
HKS Turbo Downpipe
HKS / SUMO POWER De-Cat
HKS 52mm white dial boost guage glows blue
Green Panel Filter
Blue Tailor made interior mats with STI Logo

Private plate: "UK 03 PPP"

the car if anyone can get their hands on it, has been cherished and don't let the idea of body damage put you off as it is going to a specialist centre, it has had a main wash and leather every week, and once a month a full haul over by a private firm called FRESH who also washed it each week!!

it has had its oil changed every 1000 miles my bro has taken it to a couple of the Kent meets,

Pele has seen the car and the rest of her gang, and the car was tuned by CPL on behalf of SUMO POWER.

it is in WRC Blue with Gold Alloys

They have been caught,

the police have only said that they have been envolved in another incident, but it is as serious as my brothers situation, my brother has told the police that he is going to press charges,

for these guys the **** has definatly hit the fan !!!!

I think they will most probably go down for this in a big way as there are two seperate incidents and wouldn't suprise me if the other incident was car robbery or a hijack, but that i can only presume, as the police are reluctant to relese to much information so early on,

but i will keep all of you informed of the outcome.

Also my brother is in two minds weather to keep the car, as this has slightly restored his faith,

Before the car was going to go, but now things have changed a tad but also he keeps getting tempted by G-Force's kit. and you can't tune a diesel off roader very well
