Just after a bit of advice really just how reliable would say a import WRX 1995 / 1994 with about 50K on it be. Possible looking into getting one. Has anybody had much trouble with imports. Is it best to get them AA/RAC inspected.

Cheers

No need to get imports these days, the proper UK cars are now so cheap! - avoid the risks and buy a UK car with history!!

The days of the greys are over

BigT - Is that your postcode visible on the autotrader ad? I would hide that as an unscrupulous person may wait til you have your new car and pop round.....

Take someone with you that knows about Scoobs - hard to say what the reliability will be like on a car with no history. A car with 5k or 500k miles may give you hassle.

Try looking at the state of the tyres (and rims), brakes, interior trim, engine bay to see what condition thats in as it might give you a pointer.

Best to take someone in the know ir get a mechanical inspection. Ask the seller if he / she would mind someone with alot of mechanical knowledge could take a look. If they say no then walk away now.

Good luck

had my import a few weeks when big end went. Nice.

other than that tyres, brakes etc all needed changing.

I'd never get an import again.

Red face

4 sets of pads, 24 tyres and a set of handbrake shoes in 32k?!? Own up, are you rallying it?

Seriously though, that's a lot of problems - were they all really caused by faults or were some just heavy use?

Early WRX not that reliable in many small ways. Power stearing and coolant reseviours go on them. Exhaust shields tend to. Exhausts are not stainless so can need welding etc etc. Gearbox went on mine. Scoobys do go through cultches. However the engines seem to be pretty good on them say compared to the probs some people get with STis. So expect to have lots of little things too fix. I am a fan of Jap imports. However personaly at the mo would go for a well looked after UK car and mod it sensibly.
Hope this helps

Cool

Sorry but I have a MY94 WRX and the only thing that has broken on it in 4 years is the speedo cable and the coolant tank (replaced with a later metal one).

It is the most reliable car I have ever had (had 2 Audi's before this)

If you get a good one and look after it you won’t be disappointed. You will still spend loads of money on your car but not because you have to it will be because you want to on mods.

If you get a bad Scooby, UK or Import then it will cost lots and as people have said – ask someone who knows about Scooby’s and cars to go with you to look it over.

Cheers

24 tyres in 32k miles.. bloody hell.. I think this shows the different usage people put onto their cars.

Ours is just coming up to 30k, 4 tyres.. two of which went in last 2k.. that's it.. needs some pads on fron in next couple of K.. Wouldn't say we hang around but don't see the need to habitually cane it either.. If I was buying a 2nd hand car I would ask the previous owner how many tyres / pads they go through.. I think this is a real indicator of how the car is driven and the likely future problems.. all imho of course!
