Going to pick my mother up for Sunday Lunch doing low 20's near her house when this skate board with a 3 year old comes shooting off this drive
Brake and turn the wheel scrapping my front left wheel on the very narrow kerb
the 3 year old's father cames legging it out apolagising
Kid thought it was really funny [we latter found out that he had done it 3 times before]
The dad has offered to pay for any damage and was really grateful that I was a sensible driver and not exceeding the speed limit
Oh well I have now got it off my chest

Jesus 'kin christ, what an idiot. IMO fools that let their 3 yr old kid do that aren't worthy of having kids.
Perhaps I have read that wrong! My comment still stands though!

Don't be pissed mate. Be thankfull that the father has accepted responsibilty and will pay for your damages. Many, many fathers wouldn't have done it. So you should feel good that you were driving responsibly, and good that you've met one of the rare few who is willing to accept responsibility for their own/their families actions.

good on you for missing the littlee...
good on the father for offering to pay up.
be sure to have your alignment checked just in case, too (not a **** take, just to be sure there's no damage there).
once again, well done on missing the kid.

As has been said before, well done for driving slowly in an area where this could happen.
I take my daughter to creche' every morning down one particular road where it appears not one of the children have any roadway intelligence. Many times on their bikes they just cross over without looking. I'm used to it but my mother has been taking us recently while I buy an Impreza and she has almost been caught out by one of these kids and hit them.
And there is no way anyone in this street is going to pay for damages to an Impreza. More like send you a solicitors letter!

That is really annoying Phil, I can understand how you feel about it. As Old Fart says though, at least the father acted responsibly and maybe he will learn to stop the child doing it again. Many parents would threaten you with abusive language and violence as a protective measure. Take the money, he deserves to compensate you.

Been there done that etc with my last car.
Citroen ZX Volcane (turbo diesel) - had it 3 weeks.
Driving at about 20-25mph up hill through a little village in north wales when this young lad comes flying out of walled side street straight into my car.
I had no chance to do anything except slam on the brakes. Did £800 of damage as he cracked the front bumper, broke the headlight, pushed the indicator through the wing, slaped the wing with his bike, and scraped the handle bars accross the bonnet.
Fortunately the little tw*t was OK.
Parents offerd to pay (the muppet must have thought it would have been £25 or something), but in the end I got £50 which didn't even cover my excess as I had to claim on my own insurance. Legal advice was that unless you could prove that the parents were negligent in allowing the kid to do it (difficult to prove in court) then you've no chance. Parents 3rd party liability on house insurance a possibility - but they didn't have any as it was a council house.
Annoyed - too bloody right I was.

i went to a lecture recently and "technically" the parents can be done for child abuse, as they are not caring for their child.
should imagine it would be difficult to prove but might be a bargaining tool if they won't sort things out.
cheers
