Is there any difference in air con umits for different my cars as a guy is selling a unit from a 99 Sti Tpe R V5 and I would like to put it in a Uk my97.

Just fitted aircon into my UK MY94 out of a JDM WRX, it really was surprisingly easy. You should do it comfortably in a morning.
Only differences I found are:
a) On the heater matrix casing is what looks to my uneducated eye as a heatsink - use your existing one rather than STI part.
b) Dashboard switch - you'll need a UK one. (Try another recirculating switch if you can't find one.)
Make sure you get the entire kit - condenser, pump, drier, high & low pressure pipes, matrix (preferably with the housing), 1 bulkhead & 4 fuse box relays.
