When I purchased my RB5 last May from a main dealer, I specified that the RAC Trackstar i wanted fitted was one that would activate itself if the car was moved without my knowing.

I made it totally clear to the salesmen that this is wot i wanted, he said okay and made me aware that this was the guardian and that it would be extra cost.

I said fine and it was all installed.

Anyway, just been going thru the documents as i need to getthe details updated as i have a different number plate.

I noticed that the certificate is ticked next to the Protector, not the Guardian!!!!

Well, I'm mega pissed off as i have been f****d over and have relied on the system to take care of the RB5 if anything happened.

1. Where do i go from now, do i go ballistic at the dealer/salesmen for screwing me over of do i take it that it was my fault for not noticing earlier?

2. I want to upgrade the system to the guardian, does any1 know how hard/easy it is to do this?

And typically, rac's site is down at teh mo!!!!

Two theft recovery options

Trackstar Standard
Trackstar unit is activated as soon as the theft is reported to the Trackstar National Control Centre. You can upgrade later to Trackstar Protector if you wish to.

Trackstar Protector
Trackstar unit is automatically triggered as soon as the vehicle is moved without the unit being disarmed first. Trackstar National Control Centre contacts the vehicle owner to advise the car has been stolen.

Optional emergency and breakdown response (e/b-call) **
If the unexpected happens and you need to contact the emergency or breakdown services, RAC Trackstar enables you to do so at the touch of a button. A microphone and GPS aerial are fitted. By pressing the button on your keyfob you are immediately connected to the National Control Centre - equivalent to making a 999 call but they can also put you in touch with the breakdown service of your choice. Subscription to Trackstar is necessary to use this service.

Trackstar connection prices (incl. VAT) *
Product Without E/B-call With E/B-call
Trackstar Standard £499.00 £599.00
Trackstar Protector £599.00 £699.00

Trackstar subscriptions (incl. VAT)
Subscription type Quarterly Annual Duration
Without e/b-call £33.00 £120.00 £325.00
With e/b-call £50.00 £180.00 £500.00

I think the difference between Guardian and Protector is one is a complete alarm/tracker while the other is an add-on tracker to an existing alarm.

now i'm confused!!!!

see this about the 2 options. It says that guardian is for older vehicles that dont have a immobiliser already, but then it also says:
RAC Trackstar Control will immediately alert the Police if you report your car stolen and under the 24 hour Guardian Option they’ll also tell you if your car has been stolen!
thats wot i wanted, but it looks like my system, the Protector, does automatically notify RAC, or am I mistaken?

Is this 24hr guardian a seperate option????

Well, I received a phone call from a very polite woman.

She said I had sent her an email, the reason for her call.

She advised me how to amend my details of the new Registration on the car.

She said that the Guardian is the unit for cars without an imobiliser, the Protector I have fitted is the better unit, apparently, and YES it does automatically notify them that the car has been moved

I asked her to check the tracker was working ok after a years check, she asked when i last used the car, this morning, i replied.

1hr later i receive the same polite woman calling, saying its @ ********* ********. Which is correct.

Hopefully the rest of you will receive the same professional service i got.

if any1 wants the email addy of the lady, email me a request.
