Somebody damaged my car a few days ago:

http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...hreadid=253391

Thanks for all your support and bodyshop recomendations.

I was a bit hacked off about this so I sent a short letter to all of my neighbours asking them if they saw anything. I had a couple of responses, but nothing of any use. Anyway, there is a guy who lives across the road and he now has large scratch marks all the way down the side of his car in the exact same place as mine. He is always p*ssed and regularly drives into cars while he is parking.

My question is, what do I do?

a) call the Police and try to get some proof - how the hell do I do that?
b) confront him - he probably wouldn't remember anyway
c) just leave it and not risk p*ssing off a neighbour when I have no proof...

I don't want to have to pay for damage I didn't do, but I don't want him to get away with it if he is responsible...

Help me!

Wuss.

If I lived across the road from someone who drinks and drives I know what I would do. The next time it could be some pedestrian comming home.

I would ask hin if he drove into your car, if he denies it you have no proof so can't do much about it other than shop the b@stard to the old bill for being a drink driver

Should be fairly straightforward to match up the marks on your car with the marks on his to see if they correspond. If they do, you could confront him about it, say you've got a witness, and ask him to cough up. If he refuses, tell him you'll shop his drunk driving to the police. Granted this may not be a particularly easy or pleasant route to take.

The other thing is, how do you know that the person who damaged your car, also didn't damage the other guy's too, and he's a victim just like you ?

Best of luck getting it sorted mate.

Tony,

That's a very good point about his car. It was parked in such a way that the w*nker who damaged mine could also have damaged his. It's just strange that he hasn't said anything?!! I sent him a copy of the letter as well and he hasn't responded in any way.

I'm going to see if I can take a closer look at his car without drawing attention to myself...

Wuss,

You need to keep neighbour peace in the future. The best thing is to see if the marks match first. Whe you are sure, you should pretend to get the police/insurer/indpendent involved. You should then go to your neighbour and say that you are really sorry but your car has a scratch so you got so and so (whomever you choose) to have a look at it and he insisted to look around the other cars in the area and suggested they matched. You then say to him that you haven't even looked because you don't expect such unneighbourly behaviour but these guys are insisting you speak to him. Check his reaction!
