STi v EVO V
#1
My STi is well and truely run in and I have been learning how it drives.
In comparison to my EVO it seems better suited to the really twisty stuff. Seems more agile with a faster turn in. The high speed stability does not feel quite as good but that maybe just down to learning its responses. There is a fast righthand bend near me that drops away to the left, felt quite secure in the EVO even upto sliding it round once, not so happy in the STi
The torque steer from the front is much less pronounced, in fact on broken surfaces under power the suretrac seems to stabilise the front.
It does not have that kick as you lift off to half throttle that I have had in my two previous turbo cars.
Brakes are fine for most road use, enough power and good when cold. Pulls up as well as the EVO ever did
Road noise is higher than the EVO and the air con is nowhere near as powerfull (but ok)
Black is a bugger to keep clean, but looks great.
and most of all, it sounds so much better !, love it.

Hi
Can you explain how the Diffs work on the STI? Im under the impression that the front is a sort of LSD with a full LSD at the back. The STI has an Electronic Centre Diff that moves the % of traction from 50:50 to 65:35
Sad I know but Im desperatly trying to find out.. MY local Subaru dealer doesnt know :O(
( Doesnt impress me to spend my cash with them)
Ta :O)

Hi there...
Not all the STI's have the DCCD (Driver Control Centre Diff)
I believe its only the Type R's and Type RA's - Someone Correct me on this?
On the Cars with the DCCD the centre diff start off open - giving the 35/65 front rear split, closing up locks the centre diff giving the 50/50.
On my Type RA I have STI Plate Diff on the rear, make quite a bit of noise, especially when manouvering slowly!

EVO kid, I could not compare my STi with the 8 as I owned a 5 !
The EVO never understeered ! (and I mean never), but the STi feels slightly more agile but not as stable (The AYC is a fantastic piece of kit)
I loved my 5 but test drive in a new 8 left me a bit cold and I went for the STi, don't quite know why. The running costs, the price and the fact they don't look anywhere near as good as the 5 (inside and out) did have something to do with it.
In many ways the EVO V is the greater car, but for me at the moment, the STi is the better car.
