Have heard that conventional oils are no good really past oil temps of 120 - 130C, they start to break down. Probably within the realms of possibility after long hard driving.

Would have thought a good fully synthetic like Castrol RS would withstand a fair bit more.

I run a Corrado VR6 and have the relative comfort of being able to monitor my oil temp directly (not sure about Scoobs?). VR6s run quite high oil temps - due to the confinement of the engine configuration I believe - so it is a question that has been asked on Corrado forums.

Don't take my word as gospel though!

My RA has been just over 110C on the oil temp. I did notice it though and slowed right down (doing 70mph but very hot day). It normally hovers around 95-100C but its an RA so pretty high reving.

you want to avoid going over 120 degrees C, ideally you are looking at running 10-15 degrees more oil temp than water temp.

Used to run a Vauxhall Cavalier turbo uprated a tadge, ran 1.4 bar on std compression. Oil temps could be up to 140 deg C on track. Car came with oil cooler as std.

Mobil 0-40 was all I used and had NO problems, car still going afaik at 130,000 miles.

That oil NOT recommended for Scoobs though.
