Most bods on here recommend gently heating before peeling, and a little alcohol or similar to get rid of residue. I've always rubbed like hell 'til I get blisters and have never damaged paint, but I beleive VW paint is a little tougher than Scoob paint.

"clean art" will remove all the gum like residue from them they'll literally fall off. I've used it on my car before (when i taped the boot lid shut and the sticky stuff wouldnt come off the paintwork). You can get it from any good art shop , maybe even larger branches of whsmith.
it didn't do my paintwork any harm, but as always standard disclaimer applies, YMMV, you're on you're own etc..etc...

Sorted it nail varnish remover...
Hot soapy water now to try and minimise it.

Try using WD40.... or maintainance spray as some places call it... spray it on said foamy stuff, then leave for about 5 mins, then should come off when you rub your fingers over it.. Gets a bit messy, but dont damage your paint work.. then lightly go over it with a bit of T-cut,then polish

I can't guarantee it, but Spray Sticky Stuff Remover from Lakeland is handy to keep in your toolkit (do a search if the first URL fails)!!!
It has worked with other sticky situations that i have been in
