Do all Scooby's sound different??
3 of us at work have Scoobs, we have:
a) MY95 saloon, 170,000 miles, magnex decat downpipe, magnex decat centre (unresonated) and magnex 6x4 oval backbox, dump valve, K+N induction
b) MY95 estate, 90,000 miles, standard downpipe, magnex decat centre (resonated) and magnex 6x4 oval backbox, dump valve, K+N induction
c) MY00 saloon, 90,000 miles, magnex decat downpipe, magnex decat centre (unresonated) and magnex 6x4 oval backbox, dump valve, K+N induction
When car C fires up it sounds awesome yet car A when fired up sounds a lot quieter!!!
Now as you can see the spec of all 3 cars is pretty similar
I would expect car a and c to sound louder than b because of the downpipes, however, b and c sound LOUD yet car a doesn't sound half as loud
Does anyone know why??
I'm gutted cause mine is car A...doah...and it doesn't sound half as good (even more gutted cause we just put the unresonated centre on today and it sounds exactly the same as the resonated one)
The only obvious thing that jumps out when looking at the car specs is the mileage, as you can see mine has done WAY to many miles
Any suggestions anyone??
Cheers
Hanley

Jeez
Thats some miles Hanley
I have a Magnex Twin Dump, Magnex Decat Centre, and now a Scorpion Tuner 5 BB, mine is a MY00 too, with only 30k miles
the MY00 engine is the Phase II engine, not too sure what diferences there are that would make a difference to the sound, unless headers are different
and as I type this, Ayde has just flew past my house, with his Magnex, sounding pretty good

I bought it with 140k on 2 years ago so I haven't done too bad really!!
I thought there may be slight differences in the engine with the MY00 but Liddo's estate is an MY95 and sounds the bollox!!
Seen the pic of your spoiler today by the way....proper bo I tell thee!!!!

hehe Ive been in Liddo's too, I know the previous owner
Wagons do sound slightly different tho, especially inside the car, but then the previous owner put loads of extra soundproofing in
Yeah Spoiler is back off the car for the moment, I only put it on to take the pics and to see what it looked like, hopefully it will be back on in time for Trax2003
Since I changed my Magnex BB my car is slightly quieter on the town driving, but foot to the floor it roars, but without some of the bassiness of the Magnex, which means I can now hear the bass on my stero when doing 80 on the Motorway
and yesterday I had one of the back seats down whilst driving to my sisters, and it was loud as **** in the car

Liddo's car is mint, looks and sounds the dogs danglies!!
Obviously been very well looked after - and couldn't have went to a better owner (that means you Liddo, washing your car everyday )
One thing I like about the Magnex is 30MPH in 4th sounds so deep, Liddo said he set off a car alarm the other day just driving past it

Liddo's car also goes like the clappers too
Yeah I do miss the low rumble around town, certainly gets more peoples attention, but I sacrificed that for motorway music

Couldn't believe the difference
and I can keep up with Liddo

All's I can think of is Engine Compression. The spaceship mileage must make things a lot looser and give less compression!!! Just a guess, cos everything else is the same! I wonder if mine would get EVEN louder with a decat downpipe NAH! It's bo as it is I tell thee!

Similar thing when me and me dad both had P-reg wagons with Scoobysport back boxes. My dads was really loud and mine was really quiet. Wierd
My current MY95 WRX with HKS and full de-cat is even quieter and sounds like an EVO on full boost

After 170,000 miles I wouldn't class the problems I have had as major. I bought the car at 140,000 over 2 and a half years ago and modding apart I have had to do the following:
1) Replace gearbox with reconditioned one as 5th gear was whining (car was ex-company so all mtorway miles - no suprise 5th gear going) (£800)
2) Replace both front brake calipers due to pistons sticking (£40 each - Grade A)
3) Replace rocker gasket covers and crank seals due to all leak (£300)
4) Replace manifolds from the cylinder head back (think thats right) (£150 parts - cheers Grade A and £150 labour - cheers Mainland)
So over 2 and a half years I've spent about £1500 repairing problems due to the high mileage
I have to say though that my car runs like a dream and one of the guys in Mainland thinks I have rolled my mileage forward as the bodywork is imaculate!!!
I'm sure Liddo will confirm that my car is better than his - just kidding mate!!!!
Here's a couple of piccies of my car
Still looking good after 170k, 200k here I come!!!!

remembers my missus driving us home from the snooker and Liddo sitting in the back of my scoob after 6 pints of Stella saying
"I want a scoob, I must have one of these, I really want one of these cars"
And lo and behold what appears on the front of his drive

Nice one Hanley, I had better not try and beat you in the local twisties then
I could never keep up with Liddo's on the trips down to Santa Pod, although I am getting closer with the Power, but still really need a remap
and maybe a bigger turbo/FMIC/injectors hehe where does it end

Sonic, I think it's time to get Dave Wallis off his lazy **** and get a remap chip for the MY98 upwards. There must be loadsa peeps out there wanting an extra 40-60 brake! He'd be a millionaire!
PS. How many "TRIPS" to the Pod has my car had???? Will things start to drop off soon

Just moved pics from fotopic.net to community.webshots.com
After looking on fotopic, once Scoobynet has direct linked 1000 images then they are blocked out until midnight

hehe Liddo, only a couple of trips to the Pod, not thrashed or mental driving, just Spirited driving, and the previous owner is a first class driver too, one of the best I have seen

If you want your car to be noisy, then put your current set up in the for sale section, and buy a Blitz Nur Spec f/s and a HKS down pipe You will not be disappointed!
I appreciate that this is an expensive way to do things, so perhaps just change the back box to a Blitz, Trust or HKS
My housemates car can rattle house windows in there frames LOL
