Question

What is the best way of carrying 3/4 mountain bikes on a standard MY02?

The options are:

1. Tow hook mounted rack. Not keen on a towhook. Expensive. Extra weight for infrequent use.

2. Roof bars. Difficult to lift bikes onto the roof. Loads of extra drag. Mud all over the roof.

3. Rear mounted bike rack. Haven't seen any that fit with standard spoiler.

4. Something else that I haven't thought of.

Suggestions and experience please.

I have a £15 one from Makro, the spoiler (standard ironing board) stops the support that sits on top of the boot lid going all the way back, but it wedges under the spoiler instead. Very hard to explain, but if you get one of these adustable cheap ones you can make it fit! I travelled 100's of miles with 3 bikes on the back no problem.

I'm amazed you haven't been tugged if you've driven hundreds of miles in a scoob with the number plate obscured!
I can get 1 bike in the boot of my 4 door WRX 03 (just).
If you want to carry more, I'd bite the bullet and get a towbar based solution. I've seen the results of a roof bar setup hitting a height restriction, bike, bars, and car all badly damaged!

Thumbs up

So that's one for the standard rack and one for the towbar, any more?
