Is it all over for Imprezas?
#1
Is it just me or have Imprezas had their day??
When I ordered my MY00 back in '99 it was a performance icon, fuelled by Colin McRae and raved about by motoring journalists, JD Power reliability etc etc. These days its becoming just another 'fast & furious' car, and I'm not so sure it will become the 'classic' that people once thought (unless of course you've got the only unmodded car left in the country!)
I also loved my Pug 205 1.9 GTI in the late 80's (another rubber burning icon) but maybe its time to move on.
I reckon the Nissan 350Z will be the hot motor of choice when it hits the UK?? What ya reckon?

I always liked scoobs coz of the rallying days, these days peugeot and other manufacturers compete for the best and fastest cars, but no other car seems to appeal to the public. I drive my car around Burnley and people just stop and look, i heard one kid shout, 'subaru fastest car in the world' as i drove passed. It's like Clarkson said on Top Gear when deciding between subaru or evo's, it would be subaru every time, but he didn't know why, it's just one of those things.

Fair comment Hotrod, but just because a car becomes more popular, and therefore more common, doesn't mean it is any less desireable.

Impreza's had it's day?
oh well, better sell mine...
Seriously though, I'm on my 2nd one now (MY99). Had it since October 02. Got to keep it for a few years yet, but am already looking for a replacement
Been looking at all the "competition" - Evo, R34 Skyline, Focus RS, STi8, B4RSK(saloon?)
I can't think of anything else that remotely appeals - gotta be big enough for a family, so the R34 & RS are out of the running. Evo - not my cuppa tea, So it's down to the B4 or the Sti.... hmmmm... Subaru!!!!
I couldn't give a flying fvck what Joe Public thinks about my car.
Wouldn't even look at the 350Z - too much like a concept car.
What you really want is Chrysler Corssfire!!!!

imprezas are already legends in my book.
the amount of heads that turn when i drive it is amazing, and loads of young lads always wave, put their thumbs up and say "rev it for us mister, we love the sound"
not to mention the female attraction side
why do they do this?? because scoobies are awesome!!!

Did you see the review of the 350Z. I was quite interested until I saw that road test, really put me off. I shall still have a look when a demo car arrives but he didnt seem to like it very much at all.

Anyone see the nissan on pulling power, I think it's front end is totally character-less and it's only a 2 seater, no families in that then, dont do nowt for me.
I think i'll stick with the scoob for now chaps.
And that flat four burble, just can't beat it!!!

Lots of typical blinkered answers, as to be expected on a Scooby sight, but comments like have you seen the front end, it's a datsun, only got 2 seats etc etc you really are scrapping the bottom of the barrel guys.
Have any of you seen the Z in the flesh? It's one mean mother of a muscle car and if you really think an STi or any other Scooby is going to get more people looking at it, especially females, then you're sorely mistaken.
And yes i am selling my MY99 to take delivery of my Z in October although i will still admire Scooby's when i pass them, but only the Classics as the last two efforts do nothing for me, especially as they'll lose you atleast £3,ooo just to drive them out of the showroom.

A girl I work with who has an S2000 on order nealry bought an Impreza and said my car sounded " knicker removingly good " . I think I'll stick with the Scoob then !
I think the image has dipped but who cars about that. Like the Quattra and Integral and to l lesser degree the Escort Cosworth the Impreza will be a motoring legend as it took these csrs to the next level and added Japanese reliability with the best sounding engine in a family car.

I'm only just into Scooby ownership (for about 9 months now) and I love it.
Always had run of the mill motors before, Cavaliers, Vectra's etc. Last one was a Golf 4Motion which I thought was ok, the nicest car I had owned but the Scooby beats it hands down.
I like that it looks a bit quirky, love the sound, like the fact that there isn't traction control, stability control etc. means I can control the car rather than just being a passenger.
It gets looks (good or bad), my family love it and want to borrow it whenever possible, Scoobynet keeps me busy at work when I cant drive my car - it all adds to goos ownership for me.
I usually get bored with cars but I honestly haven't with the Impreza (its a bug-eye with PPP by the way) and I have absolutely no idea what car I can replace it with (when its time) that is going to come close to the enjoyment I get out of it (within the same or similar budget).
I for one don't believe it is all over, I certainly hope not.
A Happy Bug-eye owner.
Richard.

Well Hotrod
What can i say.
In all my years of motoring/motorcycling.27 to be exact.
I don't remember keeping any mode of transport for much over a period of 18 months.(Got bored)
I've had the Scoob now for naye on 18 months now and theres NO! way I could get rid of it.
This car is EVERYTHING to all men/women.
To me it has to be the best all round package in the car/bike
world.
Try and think of ANYTHING that Tops it on each scale (and I dont care about price).
Impossible. IMHO.
And beleive me. I read all the TOP car/bike wrags.
Have owned/ridden most of the Top bikes.
Couldn't possibly afford a Top price/New car.
But reading latest roadtest?info on New models .
Theres still NOTHING going to touch MY Scoob All round.

The Subaru Impreza is already a classic and still an icon! Ask any kid to name a fast car and 10 - 1 they'll say Subaru. As for enduring appeal, they have at least four doors, they look fantastic, sound fantastic and oh, by the way, they go like the clappers. I'll endure that appeal for a few years to come, ta. ;o)

As long as there's rain, bumpy roads and twisties, the Impreza will always be a classic...10 years on and you find a car for under 20 grand that'll give it a run for its money...
