First car bought in 1985 was a 1970 Mk1 Escort 1100 popular.
Cost me £150 with 12 months MOT. Sold it for £150 six months later.
Have owned 25 cars since then and never got back what I paid for any of them.

Mk1 Escort 1100cc YWA 347M
White with a black roof. It was an ex police car, even had a zip in the roof lining they put in on the production line so it's easy to put the lights in !!
Put a twin choke nikki carb on it (any one remember those) . it had a clear float chamber and a pancake filter...grrrrrrr and I made a centre console out of wood to hold the 4” diameter smiths tacho (it seemed sensible in 1980 honest !!!)
Anyway the rings went and I duly purchased another set only to find they wouldn’t fit, took the piston into the motor place only to find the engine was in fact 1300cc + 40 thou. !!!!! and this car came straight from the police !! tut tut tut
Then three weeks after having it re-sprayed some lowlife from Mexborough nicked it from Rotherham town centre and dumped it four days later in a ditch at the back of his housing estate.

1969 Fiat 850 Coupe
903 engine
double valve springs
piper 1/2 race cam
no power below 5000
could pin the rev counter on 8000 and it still wanted more
wouldn't idle
no synchro (failed) in 2nd - had to learn to double declutch
In its day, nearly as much grin factor as scooby

Krade - you're Super Strada 85 was two below the Abarth 130TC coz one below was the Strada 105TC - my fourth car. You're right about one thing tho', they did go like the proverbial off a shovel !! Well mine did :-)
First car was a Cortina 1600E - boy racers car of the day !!
