P1 or STI 8?
#1
Was thinking of getting myself a nice low mileage P1, but test drove an STI 8 for comparisson on Saturday and now I'm not so sure. The P1's I've driven are faster but don't handle as well as the standard 8. Also, now that the 03 cars have lost the bug eyes and gained a decent rear spoiler they look almost as as good as the P1.
I also find it hard to justify £18-19k for a 2-3 year old car when compared to £23,400 (UK dealer negotiated) for a brand new car with more kit and beeter safety.
I'm not sure what to do now. I really like P1's but are they overpriced?

Just sold my 5 month old STI8 with PPP (they are awful without it IMHO) for £21k (so that was £6k in 5 months)
If you feel the STI8 is the better car then go for it, but don't consider value for money when looking at any brand new car.

according to some on here there are P1s around for 12k so i suggest you get one of these cheap P1s and not the obviously overpriced ones at 18/19k

P1 any day....just look at the pic, it does it for me I've test drove the new STi model and I know what you mean. Its more updated and tbh, I was thinking of changing aswell. But after getting back into the P1, I know what car I'd rather have.

On friving, having had a P1 for just under 3 years with full Decat and now an STI8 with PPP, i now prefer the STI8. Just better all round car and handles much better than the P1.
On the value, depends how long you will keep it. When I got my P1 there were lots of people selling after 6 - 12 months and they lost a lot, well I was very pleased with I got got for mine in June and it gave a me a decent check towards the STi8.
So if you intend to keep it fo 1 year get a P1 if 2 years + an sti8.
Both are excellent cars.

I think I've made my mind up. It's going to be an STI8 in rally blue. 4 doors, decent brakes and cheaper insurance have swung it for me. I'll probably go for the PPP so that I can keep up with you P1 owners. Hopefully I can find a UK dealer who can give me a sub £25k price with PPP included.

alright maybe wrong about the size and weight but i was speaking to the techician at my subaru dealer who drives a P1 he confirmed that the sti 8 with ppp pack is faster than the p1 the fastest is the spec c followed by the 22b
Sorry p1 boys but your cars had it's day.

Q: How do you make an STI8 look even more like a tub of lard?
A: Lower it.
You probably wizz past P1's because they are laughing so much at the fastest moving bus in the country.

There is a new kid on the block and its called the Spec C
Better than all the above, better engine, chassis, lightweight and only 28k new
The only down side is that its a JDM car (so when is the P2 coming out then? )
