Classic + Dawes Vs. New age STi 265 BHP
#1
Just wondered if there was a comparison anywhere? I'm guessing a 'safe' Dawes set-up on classic = 240 ish HP, but STi over 100Kg heavier? So a close call?

I can only comment on the 1/4 mile, as i've only run against a "std" sti at the local drag strip under those conditions. my MY00 is pretty oe, 56mm decat, and a charge cooler. on the day it was holding boost at about 13.5 psi. from launch and the first 3 gears (my car) there's not much in it, i kept up quite comfortably if not slightly ahead. towards the end of 3rd, the sti started to edge forward, and by 4th he was gone.
we both launched pretty decent, so my guess is that the 6 speed short ratio box is da ****..............also, the advantage of having a bigger turbo really shows at the upper rpm range, and in higher gears.

Safe Dawes setup on a classic is probably about 240-250 BHP with a decat exhaust, the STi is 262 BHP as standard, but weighs 235kg more. (1470 vs 1235 kg). The STi stops and corners better.
