Well today is hopefully the day my mechanic puts the newly rebuilt engine in my car.

Turns out the flywheel has been lightened and balanced at some point in it's life or it's an after market one. The clutch was completely dead so a new one has been fitted.

so everyone cross your fingers for me. If the car is done by the end of today my weekend will go as follows:

Tomorrow off to Swansea Bay Rally (at least 300 miles run in time).
Sunday off to the Newlands corner Scoobynet meet.

If the engine isn't done I'll be:

Crying into my beer...........

Wish me luck!

well it's all back in and running. Only thing is there is now a taping noise. Mechanic is hoping this is just oil getting around the engine. Also there is a slight water leak. Not to bad but he's not happy for me to drive it to wales and back.

He's run it up to temp and is now letting it cool down to see if the tapping goes away.

So I'm sort of abit happier. However I do still wish I never brougth the bloody thing!

Is there going to be light at the end of the tunnel? Who knows...........

just went to pick the car up. sounds like a bag of nails. While I was there we run the car to see if the noise was just a sticking lifter.

It obviouslys isn't and the car/engine still sounds just as bad.

I can not believe I can have this much bad luck with a car.

At this point in time I am so fed up with this car I just want shot of it. really couldn't give a **** about the car anymore.

I knew I should have just gone for the fiesta zetec S instead of a Jap car.

Well you live and learn. Does anyone have a complete engine for sale? If so mail me and make my day.

Please no 'I told you so's' from UK car owners. I was convinced I would be taken care of by the importer as my mechanic does alot of work for him.

(this will be the last jap crap car I ever buy!)

Chris,

Surely the comeback should sit squarely at the feet of the engine sourcer (to mix several metaphors)???

I'm really gutted for you

Was Billy your mechanic? If so, I bet he's as gutted as you are

Chin up and don't go back to Fords - you're not missing much

Really sorry to hear that. Did you say the engine was rebuilt? Hopefully if you stick with it all your troubles will have come at once and you will be alright once it is sorted.

well well well. My mechanic (that's Billy) went to move the car into the garage to start looking at it. when he started it the noise wasn't no where near as bad. Then it went altogether!

He called me and said I could pick it up. When I got there and he started the car the noise was slightly there. Like a sticking tappet. I drove it home (no more than 3.5K as it's running in) and the noise came and went.

Will be running it some more tonight to see how we get on. There is oil on the block which is still burning off so smoke from the vent currently Very cool.........not.

all in all alittle happier about the whole thing. Thanks for your support guys through a very difficult time

(still want a Ford tho )

The tappets probably got completely drained, so they sound terrible, and sometimes get air in too so they don't pump up properly. My XR3 (first of the ZETECS - had very common valve problems) did it when it was stuck in the bodyshop for 3 months. It took a day's driving before it died off, at the time I thought it was screwed!

If you want to hear a knackered engine, then have a listen to my Landy v8... 1 psi oil pressure (if that) when hot. And probably the loudest tappets you've ever heard!

Anyhoo, hope everything is well now, and your not ever going to get tempted into buying Dagenhams finest
