As the title says....
What would be the preferred choice??
Both cars brand new - WRX with PPP or STi8 without PPP
I have heard the handling is significantly different between the cars with the STi8 being a bit harder.
What about performance 0 - 60? Would they be similar?

This was done a couple of weeks ago but.....
Figures from Prodrive state that the WRX with PPP is in fact slightly quicker than the STI standard. What you do get with the STI though is, nicer interior, wider wheels\tyres, Suretrac, Brembos, 6 speed box. There are also some mechanical differences.
As you say the downside(around town) is a harder ride.
However if you later want more power you can always fit PPP to the STI

I haven't driven them both, but as with any major purchase, the decision is yours. Test drive them both for yourself. Depending on what you want from the vehicle and how you drive the choice should be an easy one.
The STi I believe has sharper handling due to suspension and steering revisions, and a 6 speed 'box to make better use of the power. The 'box is the main reason the WRXPPP matches the 0-60 time as an extra gearchange is required, but in on road driving the STi is way quicker. The STi also gets better brakes (Brembo).
If the car is a 2nd car then the STi has to be the choice, but if it's the main car for everyday use by the whole family then the WRX will be easier to live with. Then there's cost, £25k vs £21.6k plus insurance on the STi will be £200-700 dearer and they usually insist on a garage (and it must be used, by the car not the household junk).
The choice really is yours, but whichever you get you'll enjoy it. Then the modding bug will strike, no matter how quick they are, they can always go quicker.
Happy shopping.

And you're 158yo and have never had a speeding conviction and live in a fortress with armed guards and never go out. In fact the car is on a policy restricted to 4 miles a year.
Only joking, that's a good price, who from?

Might have to be careful with Axa though - had my My00 turbo insured with them, for a reasonable price. Then took a trip to Prodrive, returned with PPP, informed Axa and what did they say... sorry sir we don't cover modified cars - your cover with us will terminate in 7 days!!
Shopped around, went with Greenlight insurance who got me a cheaper quote than Axa INCLUDING the PPP!

No way - even the guys at Subaru on the Company Car In Action day at Milbrook said that the WRX with PPP was the better and faster car than the std STi 8 - both acclerative and top end!
There seem to be some reliability issues with the PPP though from folks I know who have it....occasionally flat as a pancake when engine hot with a remap of the ECU or new ECU being the fix....

i went for the STI cos it had all the bits on it already, that i would have ended up adding to the std WRX.
Like PPP (to get same power as std STI), bigger brakes, big rear wing, better seats (STI ones are superb, WRX a bit pants).
AND, the ride isn't that bad at all. My last car with coilovers was way harsher on ride (STI is luxury compared with it) and it wasn't even on the hardest setting!
I added it all up, including insuring a modded vehicle, and in the end, went with std STI 8 (insuring it would be easier too).
Also has RAC Trackstar as std.
Lost to think about though.

STi8 all the way
but then i am a bit biased.
after a while you could always add a PPP to it for a laugh, but it will still have the warrenty.
if you want more from a WRX PPP, you will lose your warrenty.

My Sti is the main family car and my insurance is £600 per annum
I don't know of any insurance company in the UK doing sti8 insurance for that price
The old insurance question again
Best I have managed is L&V @ 809.
I am presently with CIS for 1157 inc PPP and wheels at no extra charge plus superior terms with excess to L&V
Having said that L&V is where I will be going on renewal for the mod friendly service and track day use
