Question

A mate has just replaced his Type-R with a V-Ltd (car is on an R plate) and was wondering if any 1 has got any info/views on them? I've always been a big P1 fan (had 1 for all of 3 months ) so want something to win the arguement!!!!

Matt

Tough one he will hit you with the DCCD, roof vent, quick rack, short gearing and price.

The advantages of the P1 over the R is UK car, Uk support, cheaper (relatively) insurance, Prodrive styling mods, slightly better knock sensitivity on the ECU for UK fuel (IIRC). The gearing has been changed for UK ratios and the suspension tweaked for UK roads.

Talking

You don't say which V-Ltd you are talking about. There is a Type-R V-ltd and the STi RA V-Ltd (which I suspect you are talking about).

If you want to convince him the P1 is better, you have a hard task in front of you!!! If it *is* the RA V-Ltd, then things about it that make it better than the P1 are:

Lighter weight
DCCD Centre Diff (this alone makes the RA better than the P1 IMHO!!)
Quick Rack steering (this alone almost also makes the RA better!)
Uprated rear brakes
Close ratio gearbox (this is more down to personal pref than about being "better" though....
Automatic Water Spray
Uprated (I think) wheel bearings and hubs/axles
Roof vent (questionable worth)
Front Strut brace (very questionable value)

Then you have the STi options available to you which include:

Semi-Closed deck block (stronger block, better for tuning)
Front LSD (Limited Slip Differential (nice ))
Uprated Power Steering Pump
Uprated Top Mounted Intercooler
Uprated Fuel pump with resovoir
and many other STi goodies.....

The Fuel/Boost/Ignition maps in the ECU is also aparently the same on the P1/STi, it's just that the P1 has a Broquet in the tank which is supposed to take care of running the car on 95 RON fuel.

I would take the RA over the P1 any day of the week as it's exactly the kind of car, I want the Impreza to be!!!
