Question

Reading this site gives the impression that over half the owners of 03's have had or are planning to have PPP fitted.(Wow - do Prodrive sell shares)

Is this true reflection of market, or just that regular Scoobynet contributors are somewhat biased towards performance - hence multiple threads re PPP vs STi8.

Anyone know % owners who go for PPP (was hoping relatively rare to keep that resale value up) - or all reply and I'll do the maths!

I think I read that over 90% of Sti 7/8 drivers have had some form of modification to there vehicle. By this I think they mean PPP.
I've got PPP

Why wouldn't you?

After spending £20,000 on a performance car, it seems a bit daft not to spend an extra 8% on making it perform 20% better or more - and most people buying a new car want to keep the warranty.

That was my logic, anyway.

dont do it.....go for a full decat (i went for a stainless zorst from H&S), ITG Panel filter and EcuTek 3remap, good for 285 bhp and loadsa torque. I drove a PPP'd motor from my local dealer in the morning and then an EcuTek'd, decatted car that afternoon and new straight away which to go for.

whiteyisback, saying "dont do it" is all well and good if you've got no warranty left on the car, but i'd rather have peace of mind knowing that my warranty is still intact and have the extra power.

Mine is an STI7 with PPP by the way.

I have my03 wrx with ppp & very pleased i am with it too.

IMO the warranty is worth too much to risk on a little extra bhp.

100% so far (well almost)!
Does it mean all Scoobynetters have some form of mod/upgrade or do any of you own up to the "standard spec" item and happy with it in this forum?

I had an original spec Classic for 3 years.

Collected mine Friday and ordered the PPP to be fitted at the 1,000 mile service. Again I wanted to keep my warranty and £2K seems like quite good value for money to me.

Considering I probably spent around £3K taking my Escort Cossie up to 300hp

At the end of the day you can allways change the parts before you take it for a service, then how would subaru know any difference.

I don't think i will get a PPP, I would rater spend the money and get 280bhp

Fair comment, but suppose you break down miles from home and have to be towed to a dealer by Subaru assist

WRX03 with PPP here. Had it fitted about 2 months ago at just under 4000 miles. For me it was the only option as I definately didnt want to lose the warranty. Have to say I'm pleased with it as its not too over the top looks/noise wise but still provides a real power boost over the standard car and gives you a modest but sweet exhaust note.

Second PPP'd scoob. Couldn't go back to a normal one so I had my 03 done before I picked it up. Would never consider full de-cat due to warranty and also emission regulation problems. Great noise though. I think you're right about this sites users being into performance. It's rare to see any other modified cars around here. Mine is the only scoob in the area thats has it's bits fiddled with. All the rest still have that awful twin peashooter sticking out the back.

Cool

Me to MY03 with PPP, warranty done it for me.3000 miles now starting to fill a bit slow now as you do, so looking at making my own back box out of the stock back box should be different. (of course only to play, not long term as the warranty problems )Regards Darren

STI8 PPP for me.

Although mine has a mysterious power delivery problem at times since having PPP fitted. I am still trying to work out under what conditions it happens. Seems to accelerate with half power at times mainly on a hot day or after being in traffic for a while. Might be I/C getting hot???? so been using spray button think its doing the trick. I will have to do some more tests.

At the end of the day it's horses for courses....my MY03 WRX with full decat and Ecutek 3 is a fair bit gruntier than my mates MY03 with PPP, then again i paid the best part of £2k and he paid £1600. With the warranty side of things it really isnt that difficult to take off an the new stainless exhaust system and replace it with the OEM one, then ur back to a standard car, yes it's still a pain in the **** to do but depends how quick you want ur car to go. To be honest the other thing that put me off PPP is the exhaust noise....it just didnt sound like a performance car should (i've had integrales and porsche's in the past). With a full decat and a sensible back box (all by H&S) mines absolutely perfect; deep and gowly but not too loud....although i'm still getting used to the odd flame out the back when rev'd hard....lol.
My advice: get a drive in both cars (scoobysport and xtreme have new age cars with full decat and ecutek) and then decide.

Lightbulb

scores on the doors: 100% PPP or equivalent (warranty vs £££)
but methinketh this is not an accurate survey as only 4.2% who've read to date have replied. Does that mean the other 480 have Classics/Bugeyes/03's and don't want to join the debate, or simply don't care?

One for the coordinators - would be very interesting to know percentage split of owners vehicles. Still suspect predominance of performance bias for petrolheads who use this site (did I say "use"? meant "addicted to").

Complete standard STI8, coming from a Clio172 to my first Scooby it`s fine for me!!!

Although I would like the PPP, stupid Tesco insurance hikes for this mod make it expensive. Which at the minute I can`t justify.
