Another question from a newbie

i have recently purchased a UK prodrive impreza, it was bought as a non runner, as i look around the car i have found a couple of things, on the clutch pedal there is a small grey box with a micro switch which makes when clutch is pressed....launch control??? there is also a smalll black box stuck under the dashboard with a 3 way switch on it and has 9volt battery in it...any ideas??
