My Sti7 with PPP and no other performance mods (23000 miles) has just started making a weird resonance sounding noise at 4000-4250 rpm both on acceleration and de-acceleration through that band. The car still makes the noise out of gear? Anyone got a foggiest what it might be?

Actually I forgot to mention, it may be in my mind, or could be the hotter weather but the car has seemed to be little less powerful over the last 2 weeks

It's going to be less powerful in this weather, yes.

resonance = heatshield, one of the many.

car will be slower in this weather, needs cool damp air for best performance...

I thought about the heat shield but discounted it due to it being such a narrow rev band. The noise has gone once you hit 4.5K rpm.

I,ve got exactly the same problem with mine it comes in at about 3000 rpm and goes at 500 rpm later - it seems to be coming from the right hand side of the dash but not sure - will watch this post to see how you go on.

I used to have the same problem but at 2500 RPM. It was the heat shield.

I get a rattle on my 03 WRX at about 2.5 to 3k revs. Other threads on here reckon it may be a solenoid. I think the turbo on yours comes on later so maybe it is this??

Use to happen on older imprezas when the brake pipes were vibrating against the bulkhead, probably been fixed if they are new 02s and 03s.
