Blitz filter problems
#1
Anyone fitted a Blitz filter to an STi V or later, or UK MY99 or later. Had 2 air flow meters go since it was fitted. Looked inside it was full of cr@p. Spoke to Racelogic they've come back and basically said all induction kits cause this problem. Now have a K&N and it' fine. Most people I speka to say Blitz will cause problems 'cos they don't filter well enough. Anyone care to comment. If you'd prefer to off line email me at craig@orchiduk.com.
Thanks

Only last night was I thumbing through various catalogues looking at air filters. I was going to go for the Blitz but looks like you've saved me some money!!
What is it like with the K&N fitted, noise, throttle response etc etc

My Dealer advised against me fitting blitz (which I wanted). In the end I went for a pipercross kit as the K&N kit is not yet available for MY99/00 model cars (or at least it wasn't two weeks ago). Air flow meter still working
I used to have a K&N 57i kit on my old MY97 turbo...no problems with that either

I've had a Pipercross for two months with no problems - had sensors/meters checked on Saturday and all was fine.
May not be a noticable performance difference between Blitz and K&N, but there should be with the PX

I've had a Blitz fitted in my STI 3 for the past 8 months with no problems. I haven't found rubbish inside the filter on inspection.
My car has the older style hot-wire AirFlowMeter, which is (apparently) less suseptable to contamination problems than the hot film based one. I don't think they changed the meter type until STI5/UKMY99.
In short... on my earlier car, the blitz has caused no problems.

The link below is for an aftermarket filter test. Although the tests were done on a Supra they'll apply to any car as it's the filtering ability that's measured rather than power "increases".

Les - Geoff had his problem before the induction kit was fitted. I have run a PX kit for 2 month/4000 miles on a MY99 with no problems.
Nick, beleive me, I (and most others) get a lot more than just nice looks and a roar from mine

Pipercross used my car (my99)as a template to make the cone filter. It has worked fine for 12 months no problems.
I got bored and fitted an hks super flow filter. Since then the car has over boosted on a regular basis had two air-flow meters and now a new ecu (£750) thank god for warranty.
Needless to say pipercross going back on.
