Whats this light?

There is a 10p size round light fitting in the centre, on the very front of the dash close to the windscreen on my MY02 WRX. What is it?
It looks like the same kind of colour as an infrared receiver so I expected it to be an empty blanker but it does have cabling to it???
Its probably in the handbook but I didn't get one so any help....

At a guess: probably the thingme for the aircon that detects how strong the sun is. Even if the outside temerpature is quite cool the car can still head up loads due to the radiation from the sun so modern aircon takes this into account. Clever idea.
