New owner - spending too much!!

Hi all, I bought a 98 UK spec turbo a couple of weeks ago; a fantastic car, very very happy with it. The best car I've ever had the pleasure of driving.
Anyway, I got it cheap cos it needed some jobs doing - namely a 45k service and clutch. It turns out that it needed a new flywheel cos according to Monks Heath Subaru in Cheshire, it was heat cracked and badly grooved. Admittedly, i did drive it for about 450 miles while the clutch was dodgy....but the question is;
Is there an uprated flywheel available, is it any good?
(Monks are fitting a std one for £216 +VAT)
I'll be getting a new exhaust soon - when the original one gives up. What should I go for - full system or just cat back?
In fact, what should I mod first on this totally (mechanically)standard 4-dr UK speccer? Without costing more than £500 (for now).
I think the brakes are poo though; maybe the service will sort that?

Ok ill try and answer some of your questions
Yes there are uprated flywheels but to be honest if your fitting a standard clutch i wouldnt bother, id put the cash into a better clutch.
A full decat Exhaust system will give you the most benefit but will cause problems at MOT time.
Alot of us have full decats and its just a question of putting the center cat back on for the MOT.
The first mod would be a decat Exhaust, have a look in the for sale section and you should be able to pick up a second hand full system.
The brakes on pre 99 UK cars are 2 pot calipers and smaller discs than post 99 cars that also had 4 pot calipers.
If you look in the for sale section people quite often sell their 4 pots when they upgrade.
You should be able to pick up a full set for about £350 and 4 pots will be alot better than the 2 pots youve now got.
One problem, if youve got the original wheels you will also need to change them as 4 pots wont fit under the original ones.

For me I went for Brakes 1st as I always think its more important to stop fast and safely than to go fast, plus the car was a;ready 280bhp with two pots when I got it
At the end of the day tho its down to you, do you want cosmetic mods or Power/mechanical mods? One mod thats deffinatly on my list is the bump steer mod lots of people swear by this for improving handling.
the only other essnetial mod is to stay away from modding influences or failing that a good overdraft or credit card

Have you thought about using a specialist rather than a dealer.
that way you can get performance parts fitted instead of oem parts if you want too ?. including uprated clutch and brakes at this service.

If you want to stick with a dealer also try Robinsons in Rochdale - I found them really good. Never heard of Prosport - they're good then Rasher? They'd be handy to know as that's near me.

Thanx everyone for the advice
The service bill eventually cost me in excess of £1600!!!! Yes, thats not a typo! :O
I had to use the Main Dealer to get the Service Hstory stamped...Stockport is a little too far for me cos I'm too busy at the moment. Was gonna go to Intermoto (anyone rate them?) but will make a note of Prosport etc for next time.
So anyway, I had to stick with the standard parts for the time being cos it was urgent.
I will get an exhaust next; but now another debateable question; Which One?! I was thinking of the ScoobySport Afterburner...wanted a Jap style system, but without JDM style prices!
I think I will also look into the 4 pot brake upgrade, as £350+ isnt too bad compared to £1000+ for KAD/Brembo etc! Obviously, theres a difference between the two but I'd also have to budget for new rims to fit over the 4 pots?
Cosmetically, dont want to be too flashy, as I live on the Wirral...scallies about everywhere. Maybe just an STI or TSL front lip...for now!

I'm running an afterburner back box with centre and down pipe cats at the moment. It gives a nice burble not too loud with the cats on, I've got the Decat down pipe and centre to go the car in a few weeks time which makes a tremendous difference.

your having a giraffe aintcha £1600 i paid that at one time but that was for a 90k service (the biggest one you can have & included some additional bits) & an AP racing organic clutch with lightened flywheel & STi release bearings! I hope you got some bonus goodies & uprated parts for that price?

The fact that the service manager had a solid gold Rolex indicated that they werent exactly doing bad business!
I think I'll go for the ScoobyWorld (sorry, not ScoobySport!)Afterburner full system...but will I need a fuel controller like Apexi SAFC?
