Honesty?
Are a fellow Scoobynet user, I though I would ask everyones advice.
Now, I am a firm believer in being honest when asked about a question relating to a potential buyer of a car and expect to be treated the same.
O,K there has been a car advertised on here and it HAD been accident repaired, quite a bad smash, had a new rear subframe and suspention etc, in fact it was almost a write off.
I was almost the unsuspecting buyer and I was advised to check the car over very carfully by another fellow scoobyneter, call hi ma good honest citizen.
I gave the chap selling the car the opotunity to tell me it had been repaired but he denied all knowledge. In fact he just lied.
I'm really annoyed that someone can just pretend that their damaged car is in perfect condition and try and pull the wool over the eyes of some unsuspecting buyer.
Well you know who you are and I hope it happens to you some day.
Obviously I can't go public with his name as my account will probably get deleted and I would be banned for life but at least I didn't buy the car and I got it off my chest.

Peanuts,
It's up to the mods. I did not just believe the guy who warrned me as he could have also been a potential purchaser.
I did a lot of investegation and eventually found out where it had been repaired and gave them the owners name and they said 'oh yes, we remember it' etc....

How about the powers that be start a list of written off/damaged repaired cars details to help with this sort of thing. Maybe list registration numbers and then via a search facility see if the car you are looking at is listed. How about it??? Not sure how this would work in practice what with the cloning issue etc.
In theory you could sue this person (if you had bought the car) for the difference in value to that paid + costs/damages etc. Not a criminal offence, more civil. Though if the car suddenly came apart & someone was hurt/killed, then they would be a whole shed load of stinky stuff.

I think you should post at least post a subtle hint or two.
"Probably" so you didn't check? Expect your right though with the general PC overtones of moderation.

I don't personally like/approve of witch-hunts
Whatever the truth, there are generally 2 sides to a story & it might have an innocent reason.
It might be an idea that Zero advise the potential vendor that this thread is up, to give the vendor the opportunity to announce themself their id & at the same time their side of the story.

Puff,
That is exactly what I was about to do, as he may have a legitamte reason for withholding the information which I asked on an e-mail and over the phone. However, I don't know if he will come forward as when he found out I 'really' know it had been repaired he stopped responding to any of my e-mails, which were kept in a decent and pleasant tone.

The vendor has made contact with me.
The vehicle hit a curb and damaged it's transmission. This was repaired professionally using new OE parts. There was no suspension or body damage. The car was not a write-off or anywhere near being a write-off. Although it was an "accident" it was not an accident that affected the bodywork, looks, handling etc and that was why they had not mentioned it - same as if it had just broken whilst in use.
This is the vendor's side of the story and they don't deny it happened and that is the explanation that they have given.
Thank you

Puff,
Thanks,
I will now explain my side of the coin, When I was told about the damaged I sent the vendor an e-mail asking for lots of information one of the questions on the e-mail was "Has it ever been painted or damaged" the response back from that e-mail was "Not to my knowledge".
I thought it a little strange so I called him and asked the same question explaining I had received an e-mail from someone telling me that his car had been involved in an accident. He still denied it.
I then contacted the garage and they told me it had been on a Jig and that it had a new subframe fitted and rear suspention.
Before I contacted the garage I e-mailed the vendor and asked him if he would drive the car up to me for a closer inspection, I never got a response to that e-mail or any e-mails I sent him after that.
Prior to this offer of inspection we were communicating daily via e-mail and phone a number of times.
I just think it is very wrong and that is all I have to say on the matter.
Thanks,

I would have thought that if a car hit the curb and needed new transmission parts, that there would have been some suspension damage for the transmission parts to be damaged? You would have damage to atleast the suspension arms which is a part of the suspension, and i do think its pretty bad if someone denies/keeps this info from you after you have/are going to buy said vehicle.
It would be easier to own up that the car has had some damage, have a full inspection report on the car saying that it was repaired to the manufacturers specification and has passed all inspections carried out on the work done, this would give me peice of mind rather than hiding the truth and deceiving an unsuspecting buyer.
Just my 2p's worth
