was driving along today and there was 2 lads in a corsa gsi which they had obviously modded they were trying to keep up with my cargot to a stretch of dual carriage way then put my foot down and within a few seconds they were about half amile behind me, made me laugh as they had probably upgraded from a nova and before me they would of told there mates thier car was fast

"Has anyone else noticed how difficult it is to tell if some is "really trying" to race you? I mean you accelerate (not particularly fast) and there gone. "
Yes because Impreza's are without doubt the fastest thing on the road, bar nothing!
Don't get me wrong, they're superb cars and I'd have one tomorrow, but isn't that sort of attitude just *slightly* egotistic? To be honest, is it even worth mentioning the fact that you can easily beat a particular car - and rightly so too?
It's the equivelent of a Ferrari owner on a forum stating that they've beaten a 1.8 Focus?
I will however state that many (not all!!) Corsa/Nova/Saxo/etc... owners don't help themselves at times, all for well documented reasons.
Just attempting to prove that not all young, small car owners are neds...
Trotty (happy Corsa C owner BTW )

Your words not mine
I was merely stating that it IS difficult to tell if a smaller car is even trying. Its not bragging, its just a fact!
As would be, formula one car against, well anything. Can you imagine racing anything in an F1 car, you wouldnt even know if they were driving normally or thrashing the nutz off it.

lol!
Yup, fair point
Just jumping on my soapbox in defense of us smaller car owners...
Saying that though, I know of a few 2.0 Corsa owners who've embarrassed much more 'exotic' cars in their time. Expected perhaps considering weight differences, etc but still a nice surprise every now and then

come on trotty
nice try to fight your corner but lets face it two young lads in a modded nova, corsa, saxo, pug, golf gti, ect you know dam well a good 90%of them will be after racing you when you are in your scooby .
i have had it in a fully stickered up group A rally car.
rover 200 z car revving looking at me, i put the window down and told him the bhp i was running to get the reply "yer well i can still spank you" i think not.
it's just boys and their cars, i was like that when i was 17 , i have always had good fast cars , and i was taught to drive by my dad , both on and off road car control so i was lucky . still thourght i was in a toca touring car race every time i got in my car.
As long as it is safe to open it up a bit i say go for it

We all started somewhere thou ,with our first car. Mine was 1100cc escort back in 1976. I,ll give you Subarus are a very Quick car. But theres Quicker on the road. Like statement made on this post its like a ferrari and a Focus Plus the days of speeding have gone unless you dont want to keep your licence off course. If you want to race do it on private road or track, personaly i would sooner just enjoy driving it on twisty roads and stick to speed limits on Motorways .If i loose my licence i loose my job full stop and i do some 2500 miles per week

Some of you guys need to remember not everybody who eggs you on actually thinks they can blow you away... some of them may just want to see and hear your car blast off into the distance. I love seeing a scooby/cossie/whatever being driven as it should be driven.
I do appreciate though that there are lots of idiots out there though, personally i don't tailgate people or try to push them into racing, however if it's one of my local twisties most people who are like minded will let rip just cos my car looks a bit scary in their mirror... (Mega lowered 2.0i 306 / Fiesta Road Rally car)

When i had my Nova, i used to push users of Cossie's and the like into toasting my ***, as it was a pleasure to see
These days in the Scoob, i pick on Ferraris for exactly the same reason.
Anyone who thinks Nova/Corsa boy is looking for a race, then do the right thing and put your foot down cos they might just wanna see your car really "go"
ps - i loved my Nova just as these guys love theirs! Someday they may be a 22B owner who is well respected around Scoobynet.
We all have to start somewhere

scoobydevil1 - Yup, I see you point, I'm just merely trying to point out (not very successfully it would seem) that you shouldn't assume that *every* young [insert small car] owner are 'rude boys' trying to race things they clearly can't beat.
As mentioned above several times though, at times it is nice to see what other cars can do
Plus I'll reinforce another comment - we all start somewhere eh, no need to look down at folk...

It sometimes works the other way round too! I had some brand new STi sitting right up my behind recently, leaving some lights. I didn't play, 'coz quite simply he'd have had me. I have a Saxo VTS, and am 18 (look younger!) and he was some middle aged bloke! Even though I accelerated normally into the 50mph limit, he stayed glued to my boot Sounded bloody nice though!
I tend to stick with cars the same size as mine. Had a play with a Clio 16v last night, which I beat Not by much, but winning is winning
I could arrange for you to try and beat a friend and his Corsa if you like? The bonnet hides a C20LET lump. Bye bye Impreza

I was driving about in my old Scooby in a traffic jam a year or so ago and revved the engine a couple of times. A lad in a Fiesta behind me flashed his lights and beeped his horn.....satisfied that he had my attention, he gave me a thumbs up. With it being a dual carriageway I pulled over into the slower moving lane and wound down my window as he passed. He yelled across to me that he wanted me to blast my exhaust a few times because he loved the sound of a modded scoob.
The traffic eased up a bit and we reached some traffic lights. He was turning off and I was going straight on, so I revved it a few times and floored it off the lights on green. I looked in the mirror and could see him waving and flashing his lights.

im probably gonna get slated for this ... But why is it were on a Scooby website yet we still have "smaller car " people on here trying to degrade scooby's and telling us their cars are still as fast and as good as scooby's because they have modded them ?? BUT its still a NOVA !!!, i think this site should be for scooby owners only, and let the nova/small car owners play with other nova/small car owners ... you will not see me on a nova website telling the owners they should buy a scooby .. its up to them what they own ( when they grow up )Plus i dont want to race all these little ego trip cap wearing wannabes..i know i will beat them.. so leave us alone .. Prepare to be slated

If they want to mod their cars fair enough let 'em. They dont tell me what to do I dont tell them . My RA is quite nippy enough for me and look like any other scoob bar the TypeRA badge and the 18s.
I have had a few small hatch drivers have a go (women mainly), quite funny a 1.2 clio revving its engine at the lights only had about 240bhp advantage LOL.
Also had some peeping horns and various hand gestures off blokes mainly , some good some bad LOL. To the bad ones I normally blow a kiss to and the look on the face is priceless .
At the end of the day I like my scoob is that a crime if it is, you gotta catch me first .

Again there is this 'holier than thou' attitude. What makes it ok for a scooby owner to mod his car, and race around, going fast, and not ok for a 17 year old to do the same. You all did it at that age, i know i did, and is probably where we all get the thrill from a fast car, but the attitude on here stinks sometimes. Do you not think that at 17 they would love to have a scooby, or evo or any other car pushing out 250+ hp, but they cannot afford it, and as such have to resort to playing with stuff they can afford. well done Scoobydevil for being the exception to the rule and not getting on a high horse! And you wonder why scoobynet has a bad reputation for being arrogant?

No! Very entertaining!
Of course, 'coz I'm 18 and drive a Saxo VTS my opinion doesn't matter...
I could have afforded to buy an early Impreza Turbo, just not the insurance. I don't have to justify my actions to you, but I got the Saxo because it's quick (espcially for a 1.6), handles, looks nice and it's easy to modify. All this is IMHO. Sorry if this opinion is "wrong".
This is aimed at the guy on the last page...

I think people takes things to seriously . If someone says something about my car, so what doesnt change my view of it.
Funnily enough most (non internet) comments are positive or lighthearted banter. So what if its get blown away by a hatchback with a 3.5litre V8 in it, does it matter.
Yes I thought it was funny when 1.2 clio wanted to race me but I think its funny when anyone rolls up along side and starts revving their engine from a small hatch to a supercar just to prove something. I just didnt get involved I drove away like I always do.
I am tempted to go and play at Santa Pod though, in safety just out for some fun. Not to prove what I can beat but how fast my reactions are and how quick the car actually is in the scheme of things.
I have a lot respect for anyone who mods their cars properly and safely. Yes when I was younger I had a low powered hatch and it had fancy wheel trims (couldnt afford alloys in them days ) and orange ariel , go faster stripes, spoilers etc etc. Thinking back in them days you either had a mark3 escort or an astra, one or two had 205s and golfs.

Just a little point to raise about you guys thinking it's safer to give your car a bit of stick on twisty back roads.
Think about the hazards that you could come across round the next corner.....
Horses?? Cyclists?? Caravans?? Wildlife?? Foreigners on the wrong side of the road??
We all like to give the cars a bit of stick when we think it's safe but we can never really be sure can we?
I'm talking from experience after hitting 3 (yes that was 3) deer in one accident on a back road!
From now on I'd think twice about exactly where I "Test" the car. At least when you're on a motorway or dual carriageway you have a clear view of what's ahead.
Just a thought....
