The shiny one is an official STi accessory and its very nice but no need
There was no need for the STi radiator cap I got....or the Prodrive gear ****......or the pink "i" badge....I need one though

Its important that you get the proper Subaru one.
You may have noticed that when you tighten it it starts to click.
If you run out of petrol you can get out and give the cap a few turns. This will allow you to drive the car for a few miles before you have to get out and wind it up again.
Thats what the dealer told me anyway. Actually, mine's an EU import so this may not be a feature on "UK" cars.
Hope this helps

The shiny STi fuel cap is just a cover that has 2 grub screws to attach it to the original fuel cap. Cost about £60
........just bought mine

was just about to say that the STI one is just a cover. On top of that there must be somthing different with Jap cars fuel filler cap, as it did not really fit on mine (Euro 1999 Turbo) and I had to glue it to the original cap in order for it to not snap off all the time.
