subaru and vx220 turbo
#1
anyone driven the vx220 turbo yet?
Wondering if they give the same thrill as the scoob.
I'm considering getting rid of the TypeR due to obscene running costs and picking one of these things up instead.

I wouldn't say it would be faster, I did a trackday today with a mate in his S1 Elise, there was someone there in a VX220 turbo, I was easily keeping up with him in the Elise, and even my uk scoob with decat is faster than the Elsie, so, that would make the vx slower than my Scoob.
it certainly wasn't that fast on a track!!!

Was following one the other day in a mates car and it just took off very quickly and dissappeared. A scoob would definatley have trouble with one, even the evos dont like them much.

Ask Dave TS - he has one now after owning a number of Scoobs. Given the low weight and a fairly powerful turbo engine and a decent chassis, I'd say you would need a well driven Scoob (with a little extra power) to stay with one.

test drive is booked for this weekend.
After seeing Jeremy Clarkson throw one about on the airfield a few weeks ago, and really hammer on the fact that the acceleration was unbeliveble, I have to give them a try.....even if it is a Vauxhall.
If he can drive one, i'm sure I can

Check out www.vx220.org.uk
Be aware that alot of little things *can* go wrong with these cars..another reason I didn't want one was zero confidence in my local Vauxhall dealers customer services.

I sold my STi Type UK PPP in May for a VX220 Turbo. IMHO I got the better deal and I wouldn't go back
And on my daily cross country route 540kg less weight shows.
More importantly it's much more FUN to drive than the STi.
But go drive one and make up your own mind
And ignore comments like this from the knuckle draggers on this site who are blinkered by their own narrow mindedness

They maybe fast but they are gay, hair dressers car would never sell a scooby and buy one, plus its a vauxhall need i say more!

BTW
I posted an 81.67s lap time at Bedford in a VXT three weeks ago - check out July's evo mag when they ran four cars there - that isn't slow (and was faster than evo's time too LOL ).

i went to have a look at 1 for the missus. test drive went wrong, acualy we didn't get to test drive it (hence the wrong bit).
sat in it though and it was a bit of a squeeze and im not a big bloke. the driving position wasn't comfortable either, imho. but if J. Clarckson got in one, i must be doing something wrong. the dealer said u get used to being a bit 'cramped'.
I dont know if i would feel confident throwing one around if i was too crampt. all just my humble opinion though

Hi Tony, howyadoing?!
I don't come here much now - it's only a shadow of the site it was three years ago
Following up on July's evo group test:
Dry track
Evo FQ 81.90
Clio V6 84.15
Damp track
TVR T350C 82.65
VX220T 83.55
Follow up time for the VXT in August evo on a dry track - 81.50.
Oh, and my time for the VXT 81.67
Yeah, the VXT is a really slow track car

I do think all this badge snobbery is really funny. I mean Subaru they make tractors right, or at least that was the prevalent view 10 years ago. Now people's idea is very different.
Full credit to vauxhall for trying to lift their image beyond that of the average rep mobile.
If I were thinking of a reasonably priced two seater then the VXT would be high on my list.

A guy in Seatcupra.net bought the non turbo last year, reached under the dash to pop the bonnet/boot or whatever it was, and cut his hand open on the unfinished bodywork. He was off work for some time...
