Drove up to Newcastle and back today. Outside temp gauge in the MY02 showed a max of 30 degrees - phew.....

But, with the aircon as low as it would go, it still felt way too hot in the cabin. Interestingly, I found it's a bit cooler with the recirc on (presumably because it doesn't have to keep cooling fresh air every few secs).

Went in a mate's C-Class Merc, and the aircon is far cooler (maybe 2 or 3 degrees...)

Anyone got any ideas to get it working better, or are we all stuck with some half hearted engineering??

Hi Harry_Boy, no problems here and mine is an MY02 same as yours. I must admit to get it coolest I have to set it to recirculate and have fan on FULL not AUTO. Its says in the manual that you set this initially to get cabin temperature down then you can put it on AUTO once its cooled right down. I've got a clip on digital temperature gauge fastened to the vents and it gets down to 8 deg C and maintains that.

Did the other car have air con or climate control, because with climate control the cabin temp can only go as low as the lowest reading on the gauge (on mine 20oC)... normal air con can get that cold it can frost the vents.. i noticed this on my dads old car a mark 4 astra.

Worth having it checked, you may have a leak.

Yeah - it's the 'alleged' semi-automatic climate - ie. with the dial that reads down to 20 degrees. I think I'll try the 'full' trick before resorting to auto. Might have the opportunity tomorrow!

Sounds like a problem as I was surprised just how cold my g/f's Impreza can get, too cold on max certainly.

Mine is freezing cold, MY03 on Auto.

It may need re-charging, made a difference when I had my classic serviced by Cool-air UK.

just gets cold enough on auto. no frost in the cabin.

It seems the sun is radiating heat through the glass, but the air is only being convected.

Some principal I forgot at school. HELP IT'S TO HOT!

I'm a diehard, no aircon and windows closed like the real WRC stuff...

Creepy,

PS : That part of the windows is skipped today, bloody hot.
But I especially ordered a MY00 without aircon, for the few hot days we have it's nothing compared with the power loss and extra weight...

Aircon will work quicker if you leave your window down a bit for the first 4-5 mins of your journey, let the hot air out. I find the recirculator doesn't make that much difference in my MY02.

Mine gets condensation on the screen, but it's no where near as good as the climate on the C-Class.

Not Subaru i know, but in my Evo6 if i turn the Climate Control below 18 degrees the system automatically changes to recirculation.

You need re-circ to have the a/c working properly...

Why? Well otherwise hot air from outside enters the cabin

Thats the same sort of reasn why a/c in offices means that windows are kept shut & the units are outside or exhausting to the outside.

Should add that the outside temp gauge peaked at 35 C

Just wondering how accurate they are?

Cool

MY99 icy cold at all settings below warm on the dial. Crude in general and difficult to regulate, but perfect right now.

My STI8 works fine.

Get in car, extremely hot inside. by the time I have reached the end of my road it is bearable, couple of hundred yards and by the time I have left the housing estate it is almost too cold, less than 1 mile @ 30 MPH that is still under 2 minutes.

I have the temperature set 3 - 4 notches above 20 degress.

My STi 8 Type UK is lovely and cool with the dial on 1 or 2, I just can't live with the power loss that comes with it!

Where & how much to get the aircon re-charged (re-gassed?). Mine has got steadily warmer, MY00.

Cheers

Matt.
