I'm on about scooby turbos, not stuff out of old westerns!
On the 2nd hand market which fetch more? I get the impression saloons are more sought after, though most people I speak to prefer the looks of the saloon, and the practicality. As well as the fact performance/handling is almost exactly the same.

Well these prices come straight from Glass's Guide:-

4dr Turbo 98 (R) 55,000 miles, trade £7000, retail £8825
5dr Turbo 98 (R) 55,000 miles, trade £6975, retail £8800

According to the trade a MASSIVE £25 more for the 4dr but in reality i would have said a 4dr (being more sought after) would be worth £250 - £500 more, based on standard spec.

Also less wagons around so you may have to pay a bit more, not really any difference in prices i found.

Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder as tasteful wagons are better to look at.

Certainly no confusion with a Daewoo anyway.

I must admit I think standard 4 doors look better than standard 5 doors but moded wagons look better than moded 4 doors.
Dougster that is one hell of a good looking Wagon

There was a time the saloons were worth more - not anymore, the discrete look is in ................ big spoilers and the 'driven through Halfords with a platic magnet look' has gone!!

The Wagon handles better, is faster and looks smarter - its for the man with a brain .......... saloons are for the sheep, Bahhhhh!!

May sound a stupid question but why do wagons handle better ??? I would have thought that as the 4 door has a rear shelf it would be more ridgid and help the handling ??

Wanted to buy a wagon, but they were at a massive [10% or so] premium used here, so went for the 4dr instead. IMHO wagons look better and a little more sheep in wolfs togs.

Saloons did seem to command a better price a few months ago, and seem easier to sell privately.

Now I'm not sure, wagons seem to be gaining in popularity as everyone assumes they're slower than the saloon. Which is a good way of surprising people

Try to find a good wagon on the used market is pretty hard, A friend was looking for a late classic / early bug eye, and couldnt find one in good condition / low mileage.

If they a scarce and sought after, cant really see why they would be worth much less than a same spec saloon, but I suppose the wagon did cost more to start with, so overall depriciation is more.

For extrovertmobile go for bewinged saloon.
But as age and sense (and in my case multiple kids) creeps up on us thoroughly recommend the understated wagon approach.
Less obvious to Old Bill and to non-petrol heads and can fit in kids, dog, wife, kite-surfer, kitchen sink etc

Add PPP or similar (but NOT big wings) and you have one of the best value Q cars available today. As this catches on, value of wagon will improve as there is undoubtledly less of them around when I searched before buying new.

that's what I used to think before I trod the PPP path.
and pink logo's/gold wheels clash with the Q car theory!

Having said that - the blistered WRX 03 saloon arches/wider tracking would be good on Wagon: anyone know why they omitted this? Perhaps had a stack of wagon bodyshells to get through.

Wagons are the $hit people!
Course I'm biased though.

As for the claims that it handles better - I don't think that's a valid point at all...unless the "extra weight" of the rear cabin area puts more downforce on the rear wheels. Remember the wagon is virtually the same length as the 4dr version.
(and it's still a bit shorter than a 94 Honda Civic sedan)

That's why all the door panels are transferable!

Put it this way though. What vehicle can transport a dog and a fridge, and still pull the rubber off most other cars?

Not many I'd bet!

I have an Auto sport wagon, and to say it is good is a bit of an understatement.

Most posts on here are stating that wagons are more expensive than saloons.

That certainly didn't seem to be the case when I was looking a few months ago.

I'm sure I saw a few sti wagons around the MY96 for approx 5K to 6K. To get a sallon sti for that price you'll be doing well. Obviously quality could not be compared physically but first impressions were as stated above.

Just thought I would put in my tuppence worth.

STI wagons are exactly the same spec as 4 dorrs, so wy not have the same performance with the bonus of practicability, understated and less desirable to the tea leaves!

I shocked a 328 by going past him a v high speed, 4 up with a boot full of luggage and roof bars double stacked with 4 wake boards, try that in your 2 dr!
